Job Description:

The Software Quality Engineer is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and control of a Quality Management System to ensure that delivered products meet all required corporate and contract standards and specifications. The Quality Engineer protects the customer to ensure product quality and contract requirements are met.  This includes ensuring/verifying the quality of product inputs and outputs. A successful Quality Engineer should have excellent analysis skills and communication skills to work with customers, leadership, engineers and peers in a variety of work engagements.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead or support continual improvement activities to enhance the quality system, such as root cause analysis, Zero Defect Plan (ZDP), 8D, 6S, Kaizen, lean methods, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Provide quality support to development teams on software, systems, hardware and aeronautical engineering programs to facilitate proper implementation of product and process policies, methods, and operating practices.
  • Utilize investigative and problem solving tools, techniques and methods to identify corrective and preventive action opportunities and drive continual improvement.
  • Perform quality audits and assessments to assure compliance with customer, company, and regulatory requirements in support of CMMI, AS9100/ISO 9001:2015 and the Quality Management System.
  • Monitor and report audit findings and determine proper corrective and preventive actions with the process owner and leadership.
  • Attend Agile team meetings and observe Agile practices to ensure compliance with defined company processes and industry practices for SAFE, DEVOPS and LeanAgile. 
  • Witness product verification and validation procedures including systems, software and aeronautical engineering per documented test procedures and criteria.
  • Frequent contact with internal and external customers at various levels and participation in meetings and activities.
  • Occasional night and/or weekend work may be required.
  • Occasional weekend on-call duty is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance, which requires U. S. citizenship.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Practical experience thoroughly investigating issues and escapes in a methodical manner utilizing Quality Root Cause Analysis Tools, i.e., Pareto Charts, 3 X 5 whys, Fishbone Diagrams, PFMEAs, etc. that ultimately result in a report that identifies containment, root cause, and corrective and preventative actions
  • AS9100 / ISO 9001:2015 working knowledge
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD top secret clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship
  • Process improvement skills such as 8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma/Lean Green Belt, Kaizen, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers at various levels.
  • Agile, SAFe and Lean Agile process experience a plus.
  • CMMI working knowledge a plus.
  • Experience in Engineering, or aviation a plus.
