Job Description:

The Sr. Specialist, Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, test, and integration of complex, specialized hardware/software systems installed on ground and airborne ISR platforms.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Interfaces with Systems Engineering, Flight Line Test, Product Development, and Project Engineering personnel to understand new baseline functionality.
  • Works closely with Systems Engineering and Customer personnel to guide the development of new system capabilities, representing customer interests during all phases of requirements definition, development, and integration. 
  • Plans and executes integration testing in a Systems Integration Laboratory and on airborne and ground-based platforms.
  • Verifies and validates new baseline functionality while ensuring legacy functionality still works as intended.
  • Follows existing standards to document system testing status and anomalies with the system hardware and software.
  • Verifies fixes to anomalies.
  • Interfaces with customer personnel to ensure satisfaction with system performance.
  • Works with management to develop and adhere to schedules and budgets required to accomplish assigned work.
  • Provides regular status updates for ongoing work efforts to keep management and customer informed.
  • Supports the development, integration, verification, and validation of complex Data Links and Tactical Communication systems.
  • Develops and performs testing scenarios, procedures and use cases that closely mimic real-world situations.
  • Participates in formal engineering analysis and reviews performance parameters at the total system and individual component levels. 
  • Performs the design, development, and release of related data management, processing, and reporting software tools.
  • Communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Troubleshooting Data Link (e.g. Link16, CMF, etc.) or other communication systems in single and Multi-Level Security environments.
  • Read, interpret, create, and maintain spreadsheets, charts, reports, investigation and test plans, and procedures.
  • Work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, et al) is required to generate work products.
  • Physical requirements: Some lifting in a Systems Integration Lab (SIL) environment.
  • Systems engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Building and analyzing Data Link (e.g. Link16, CMF, etc.) messages.
  • Working knowledge of Mil-Standards 3011, 6016, 6018 and 6020.
  • Writing systems and software requirements using an application such as DOORS/JIRA.
  • Presenting design and project information at periodic reviews as well as recommending improvements to existing designs.
  • Be comfortable handling a large amount of classified material.
  • Familiarity with common Tactical Datalink radios/terminals, to include MIDS-JTRS, JTIDS Class 2, JRE, as well as ARC-210M radios, and experience with MIL-STD-1553B interfaces.
  • Working with Unix/Linux commands in terminal consoles.
  • Building test cases to assess software and system operation against requirements, writing defect reports, and assessing corrections.
  • Networking technologies, to include Security+ certification.
  • Ability to travel as needed (~20% travel expected).
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends/holidays with little/no advance notice.
  • Willing and able to perform flight test duties on-board customer ISR Aircraft.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with six (six) years of prior RC-135 platform, RC-135 Datalink Operator interface experience.
  • Graduate degree with four (4) years of prior RC-135 platform, RC-135 Datalink Operator interface experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of ten (10) years of prior RC-135 platform, RC-135 Datalink Operator interface experience.
  • Must have an Active Secret clearance at the time of hire with the ability to obtain a Top Secret with SCI.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Class III flight certification.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • DoD/Military experience.
  • Previous experience as RC-135 Airborne Mission Supervisor and/or Airborne Analyst.
