Job Description:
The Sr. Associate, Mechanical Engineer (ME) is responsible for turning conceptual ideas into executable designs for prototypes, mockups, and test fixtures. The ME will work in a research and development type environment with the capability of working on conceptual plans or in-work engineering. The ME will need to perform basic analysis, follow test procedures, interpret drawings, and follow technical process specifications to successfully complete a project. Other responsibilities include specialized assembly/fabrication for structural test set-ups, mockups, prototype parts; as well as testing such as static load testing, durability/cyclic testing, material qualification, component qualification, and material ID.
Essential Functions:
- Using engineering knowledge to turn ideas for testing/prototyping into executable designs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools.
- CAD and Drafting.
- Ability to Coordinate with multiple disciplines (Engineers, Program Management, Production).
- Structural and mechanical testing.
- Basic lab data acquisition.
- Basic metallurgy.
- CNC programming and operation.
- Hands on experience with machining, welding, sheet metal, and woodworking operations.
- Working with complex mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret or Top Secret Clearance.
- Physical ability for climbing ladders, lifting, and variety of hands-on activities.
- Willing and able to travel up to 5%.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with two (2) years of experience with test procedures, basic analysis, mockups, lab, and/or prototypes.
- Graduate Degree with zero (0) years of experience with test procedures, basic analysis, mockups, lab, and/or prototypes.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of six (6) years’ experience with test procedures, basic analysis, mockups, lab, and/or prototypes.
- Must be able to successfully pass a physical and certification training for respirator use, forklift operation, and operation of other lab equipment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Secret OR Top Secret Clearance.
- FAA testing and qualification process.
- MTS load Test Equipment.
- Aircraft processes or A&P mechanic training.
- Bid process and bidding software such as EEST.
- Forecast process and forecasting software such as LTS.
- Experience using SAP.
- Computer Aid manufacturing (CAM), programming from CAD to CNC machines.
- Skilled in the operation of machine tools (i.e. lathe, mill, band saw, etc.).
- Skilled in the operation of hand tools (i.e. drills, grinders, routers, etc.).
- Composites.
- Certified Welder.
- Electrical wiring.
