Job Description:

 

L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering team as a Electrical Engineering Lead.  The engineer will serve as a Product Lead for a newly awarded aircraft modification program.  In this role, the engineer will lead teams of electrical engineers through the design and development of electrical systems and electrical/electronic equipment on military/commercial aircraft and ground stations.  The engineer will be responsible for cost, schedule, and technical performance of the electrical systems.  Lead Electrical Engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.  Engineer will also be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of 7-12 design engineers for the duration of an assigned project.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Oversee teams of electrical engineers developing system wiring diagrams, circuit breaker panels, control panels and other items using CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools of subsystems
  • Research and preparation of engineering drawings and coordination of design activities with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost
  • Coordinate with Certification Authority on electrical systems designs
  • Responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments
  • Perform project planning, scheduling, monitoring activities for cost and schedule, providing drawing and design status, and budget estimates to program task leads
  • Participate in technical and cost proposal writing teams providing technical solutions, development plans, technical write-ups, cost and schedule estimates and the documentation of the basis of estimate
  • Act as primary point-of-contact with various technical customer suppliers and sub-contractors, with the expectation of acting independently on technical matters
  • Communicate needs/requirements/status to management and other engineering disciplines
  • Train and mentor engineers
  • Ensure engineering teams are following established L3Harris Technical Process Specifications and related design practices and methodologies
  • Work independently with little direction

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with twelve (10) years aircraft systems design related experience or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering with ten (8) years aircraft systems design related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required
  • Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
  • Be able to travel to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar environment and board/exit aircraft is required.
  • Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement
  • Basic understanding of aircraft systems and various mission systems
  • Able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship
  • Must have working knowledge of aircraft Avionics Systems, RF, LAN, Data Processing, and other ISR systems
  • Must have design experience of aircraft Power Distribution Systems, including Electrical Loads Analysis and aircraft load shedding schemes
  • Must have knowledge of environmental and electromagnetic equipment qualification requirements

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with fourteen (12) years aircraft systems design related experience or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering with twelve (10) years aircraft systems design related experience
  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 or 25) or military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements
  • Knowledge of with CAD and PLM software, including NX, Capital Harness and Teamcenter
  • Experience with aircraft systems modifications to include power, lighting, avionics
  • Experience with mission systems modifications to include COMMS, Radar, ELINT, COMINT, ICS
  • Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Experience with cross-functional communication/coordination
  • Ability to perform in-depth Lead reviews on drawings and documents
  • Experience as a Lead over a system product, tasking multiple engineers while maintaining schedule and budget of the product
  • Experience with liaison activities to answer on-the-spot questions for manufacturing and production groups and coordinate engineering design updates
  • Interpersonal skills: Engaging communicator, strong collaboration, patience, and open minded
