Job Description:
The Lead, Systems - Network Engineer (NE) performs technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation, and troubleshooting for total systems and/or subsystems. The Lead NE is part of a team that supports the requirements, design, development, test, and integration of complex, specialized hardware/software systems installed on ground and airborne communication platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
- Assist in the design and development of physical and logical network architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capabilities across multiple security domains.
- Design robust and scalable network solutions to meet business requirements.
- Implement network changes and upgrades according to project plans.
- Maintain networks (both LAN, MAN & WAN) connecting airborne and ground systems via terrestrial and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) circuits.
- Translate the voice of the customer into system-level requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, i.e., BGP flapping, .and network instability.
- Monitor network performance and ensure network reliability and availability.
- Perform requirement traceability methods and purposes, to reduce risk and improve project outcomes.
- Assist and/or perform systems engineering trade studies
- Assist in the evaluation of trade studies for accuracy and completeness
- Write subsystem specifications based on system level requirements.
- Evaluate alternative solutions and establish preliminary system design.
- Review and evaluate diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements.
- Develop and execute network test procedures ensuring system performance and capabilities meet system requirements.
- Prepare effective presentations to communicate technical network information to non-technical professionals.
- Collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines to design a cohesive, credible multi-security domain network and integrate the resulting design in a MIL-STD based development environment.
- Prepare and maintain detailed network documentation.
- Generate reports on network performance, issues, and project progress.
- Willingness to travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, there is a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in network (LAN/WAN) design incorporating industry standard security best practices; NIST framework.
- Demonstrated network engineering experience including IP addressing, switching and routing, VLANs, VPNs, video teleconferencing, VoIP telephony, and LANs/WANs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of IP Multicast, Class of Service (CoS), Layer 3 VPNs, and Layer 2 VPNs.
- Demonstrated experience in routing protocols including MPLS, BGP, OSPF, PTP.
- Demonstrated experience with networking hardware interface control documents (ICDs).
- Demonstrated experience in configuring and troubleshooting routing equipment from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
- Demonstrated configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, voice, and video teleconferencing equipment.
- Demonstrated experience developing, authoring, and implementing software and system test plans in a team environment.
- Demonstrated experience working successfully both independently and in a team environment with the ability to lead small test teams through an entire build cycle.
- Demonstrated experience with testing, integrating, verifying software and/or hardware.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Secret or TS/SCI strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience with open standards/interfaces such as components communicating through non-proprietary, consensus-based standards (e.g., VITA/VPX, SOSA, DDS).
- Demonstrated understanding of tactical data links, including beyond line of sight (BLOS) systems.
- Experience with digital backbone and nodal access units is a big plus.
- Current Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
