Job Description:

The Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering - Network Engineer (NE) performs technical planning, system integration, verification, and validation, and troubleshooting for total systems and/or subsystems. The Sr. Specialist NE is part of a team that supports the requirements, design, development, test, and integration of complex, specialized hardware/software systems installed on ground and airborne communication platforms. 

 

This position includes an expectation of 10 to 15% shift, on-call, or weekend work. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the design and development of physical and logical network architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capabilities across multiple security domains.
  • Design robust and scalable network solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Implement network changes and upgrades according to project plans.
  • Maintain networks (both LAN, MAN & WAN) connecting airborne and ground systems via terrestrial and Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) circuits.
  • Coordinate with the ISP for the installation of lines and necessary hardware.
  • Configure edge devices and establish BGP peering if required.
  • Collaborate with the ISP for effective issue diagnosis and resolution.
  • Translate the voice of the customer into system-level requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, i.e., BGP flapping, .and network instability.
  • Monitor network performance and ensure network reliability and availability.
  • Perform requirement traceability methods and purposes, to reduce risk and improve project outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable of IP Multicast, Class of Service (CoS), Layer 3 VPNs, and Layer 2 VPNs.
  • Assist and or perform systems engineering trade studies
  • Assist in the evaluation of trade studies for accuracy and completeness
  • Write subsystem specifications based on system level requirements
  • Evaluate alternative solutions and establish preliminary system design
  • Review and evaluate diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements
  • Develop and execute network test procedures ensuring system performance and capabilities meet system requirements
  • Prepare effective presentations to communicate technical network information to non-technical professionals
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines to design a cohesive, credible multi-security domain network and integrate the resulting design in a MIL-STD based development environment.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed network documentation.
  • Generate reports on network performance, issues, and project progress.

 

Qualifications:  

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, there is a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in network (LAN/WAN) design incorporating industry standard security best practices; NIST framework.
  • Demonstrated network engineering experience including IP addressing, switching and routing, VLANs, VPNs, video teleconferencing, VoIP telephony, and LANs/WANs.
  • Demonstrated experience in routing protocols including MPLS, BGP, OSPF, PTP.
  • Certification and Accreditation process and implementation of systems that achieved an Authorization to Operate on government networks.
  • DODAF knowledge.
  • Configuration, integration, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, voice, and video teleconferencing equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, authoring, and implementing software and system test plans in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully both independently and in a team environment with the ability to lead small test teams through an entire build cycle.
  • Demonstrated experience with testing, integrating, and verifying software and/or hardware.
  • Willingness to travel.

    • Current Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
    • Security +
    • Network +
    • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Provider – Router and Switching Professional (JNCIP-SP)
    • Arista Certified Professional (ACE-P)
    • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA)

 

  • Current Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with Kubernetes deployment/administration.
  • Experience with SATCOM solutions/protocols devices is also a plus.
  • Experience with HAIPE devices is also a plus.
  • RedHat Enterprise: Linux.
  • Knowledgeable about encryption protocols, certificate management, and securing VPN connections.
  • Experienced in defining and enforcing firewall policies, rules, and access controls to protect networks from unauthorized access and threats.
  • Knowledgeable about network security concepts, including intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), NAT (Network Address Translation), and port forwarding.
  • Proficient in monitoring firewall logs and analyzing traffic to identify and mitigate security threats.
  • Experience working with subcontractors and US Government customers.
  • Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process and implementation of systems that achieved an Authorization to Operate (ATO) on government networks DODAF knowledge.
