Job Description:

The Lead, Mechanical Engineer (ME) will be responsible for participating in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. The ME will apply basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design. Designs will be accomplished using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools and work will be accomplished with senior-level design engineers. Mechanical design engineers can work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Research, development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost.
  • Providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees.
  • Oversee the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations.
  • Confirm proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.
  • Ensure programs are accomplished on schedule and within budget while complying with process/procedures and program requirements.
  • Provides input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.
  • Verify program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met.
  • Capable of influencing a wide range of audience and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.
  • Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management.
  • Formulate strategic vision, define implementation plan of action to achieve success.
  • Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.
  • Experience running total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.
  • Understanding of aircraft systems, and various mission systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with nine (9) years of aircraft design related experience.
  • Graduate Degree with seven (7) years of aircraft design related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, there is a minimum of 13 years of aircraft design-related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Task Lead or Product Lead experience especially on large prototype programs.
