Job Description:

 

Professional with strong knowledge of job area and broad knowledge of mechanical design & drafting practices. Communicates within and outside of their own function to gain cooperation on operational processes, practices, and procedures. Works on complex designs and processes with engineering oversight. Make improvements to systems and processes. Contributes to the achievement of departmental & interdepartmental goals and operating plans with direct impact on the departmental & interdepartmental results.

 

  • Develop and document detailed designs using SolidWorks.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs.
  • Design and development of hardware that meets system, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Generation of solid models in Solid Works for concept evaluation and deliverable hardware.
  • Prepare design review material in support of PDR, CDR, SRR and technical audits for assigned programs.
  • Evaluation and development of system requirements.
  • Provide technical status, forecast technical needs and implement changes as necessary to meet program objectives.
  • Ensure that engineering drawings and documents are complete and are properly logged into the company’s data depository.
  • Provide technical support for the procurement, fabrication, and assembly of hardware and systems.
  • Support the generation of Engineering documentation as required by the contract using standard Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Provide leadership and direction to more junior Designers.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance of technical tools, laboratories and test equipment as required on assigned programs.
  • Support system test and evaluation including input to test plans and procedures.
  • Provide support and direction to peer disciplines, operations, manufacturing, and procurement.
  • Provide manufacturing floor real-time feedback and oversight.
  • Support Operations for build, test, evaluation of qualification deliverable hardware.
  • Support Engineering with technical bidding input during proposal efforts.
  • Support engineering in developing plans and procedures to test components and systems during qualification and acceptance phases of a program.
  • Ensure that assigned project tasks meet allocated contract cost and schedule requirements.  Identify problems and recommend work around plans and alternatives.
  • Support check and balance procedures to monitor, review and evaluate design activities performed on programs. to assure conformance with customer requirements, company standards and sound engineering practices.
  • Support development of detailed cost estimates for specified technical activities and subcontracts.
  • Support the implementation of internal technical and engineering practices and procedures.
  • Promote cordial relationships and foster and maintain a favorable business profile with customers, suppliers, co-workers, industry and professional associations, government agencies and the local community.
  • Support production and manufacturing analyses and ensure that the design meets the specifications and standards defined by the program.
  •  Support DFMA (Design for Manufacturability) analysis.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Associate of Sciences (AS) Degree and minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience.
    • Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
    • Or, Bachelor Degree and a minimun of 6 years of prior related experience.
    • Or, Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD U.S. Security Clearance (Secret)
  • At least 2 years of SolidWorks experience  

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Working knowledge of geometric tolerancing and standard drafting techniques per ASME Y14.5.
  • Subsea Design
  • Fiber Optic Design
  • Hydrodynamics
  • GD&T knowledge

 

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $90,000 - $165,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
