Job Description:
The Lead Technical Support Engineer is the contracted Telecommunication Subject Matter Expert (TCSME) at a given United States Space Force (USSF) 53 Special Operations (53SOPS) detachment’s Wideband Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Operations Center (WSOC). The TCSME provides SATCOM transmissions control and operations technical support and analysis services, along with and technical assistance as needed to operations personnel to analyze SATCOM transmissions. The TCSME also is a leadership position for on-site contractors with responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, task scheduling and technical training for on-site System Administrators.
This position will be based at the USSF 53SOPS Detachment 2 WSOC in Fort Meade, Maryland.
Essential Functions:
The Technical Support Engineer Lead (TCSME) duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs analysis and support of Operating Systems, application software, database applications, and network protocols.
- Assesses configurations and link performance for SATCOM accesses.
- Schedules password updates and supervises safe inventories performed by system administrators.
- Catalogs anomalies with the approved Maintenance Management Information System (MMIS)
- Coordinates with WSOMS sites for the scheduling of software upgrades and releases and confirms patches and fixes have been applied and implemented correctly.
- Recommends and implements engineering design changes required to adapt technical requirements.
- Performs on-site customer training to include interface with technical representatives. Schedules, performs, and supervises On-the-Job Training (OJT) and informal training support for the uniformed operator as requested by the customer.
- Performs daily review of audit, security, and application logs and identifies problem areas or trends, takes the proper action to remedy and generates required reports.
- Maintains firewall rule sets and related parameters, intrusion detection systems, reviews audit logs, and takes required corrective action when an intrusion is detected.
- Following reconfiguration, analyzes satellite and network performance to confirm the effectiveness of the reconfiguration and identify anomalies.
- Analyzes DSCS and WGS network configurations and link performance.
- Provides administration support to site SIPRNet and NIPRNet.
Qualifications:
- Must have an Active SECRET security clearance, and the ability to obtain a TOP SECRET security clearance
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. Prior relevant experience should consist of the following:
- Minimum of 4 years of Military SATCOM experience, including experience with satellite transmission control and the ability to analyze SATCOM transmissions, accesses and link performance.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working in a WSOC.
- Experience in computer-based satellite network control systems and IT, the use of IT tools for managing and troubleshooting complex computer networks, and management of WSOMS computer networks with skills particular to the administration of a Windows and AD domain environment.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active TOP SECRET security Clearance
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment
- Strong skill set with Microsoft Office software applications.
- Working knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF) and cybersecurity requirements
- Previous experience supporting DoD/government customers
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $98,500 - $182,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
