Job Description:  

L3Harris Technologies Inc. is seeking a Technical Support Engineer Senior Specialist to join our team to Provide technical assistance, analysis and informal training related to the WGS satellite and the GSCCE, and the DSCS satellite and the RSCCE. Travels as necessary to support site requirements and technical meetings. Provides payload control and operations technical support and analysis services on the command and control of a satellite’s communications payload. Supports operations personnel to develop and implement procedures for identification and resolution of complex satellite anomalies and perform satellite statistical and performance analysis. Provides technical support to operations personnel to develop and implement satellite payload reconfigurations, procedures, timelines, payload pass plans, and test plans. Provides emergency advice and assistance to operators during real-time spacecraft anomalies and after-action reporting to document operational lessons learned. Supports and generates special data collections for a payload control subsystem to aid in satellite testing, anomaly analysis, and other data needed to support operations as directed by a COR. Provides operational assistance to the site personnel on an occasional basis.

Essential Functions: 

The Lead, Technical Support Engineer duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide transmissions management and network management of Wideband SATCOM Operational Management System (WSOMS)and other MILSATCOM C2 programs.
  • Serves as technical consultant for transmissions management and control in the Super High Frequency (SHF) (i.e., Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS)) and functional area.
  • Develop/coordinate policy and plans for the DSCS program. Develop definitive technical solutions that consider systems architecture, interoperability, interfaces, protocols, networking, expansion potential and overall end-to-end compatibility.
  • Participates as consultant, advisor, or member in various Department of Defense (DoD), Joint, and MILDEP planning and working groups.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and recommend solutions to future communications and automation operational challenges using knowledge of satellite communications systems and their relationships to other telecommunications networks.
  • Provides technical and operational planning, system configuration and operational mission support.
  • Develops technical and management comments reflecting the command position with respect to Army and joint actions, interface with other command and higher authority.
  • Assists in managing the Wideband SATCOM ground segment for transition to current/future satellites through concept, development, testing, procurement, production, and fielding.
  • Works at senior level to define and integrate strategic direction for Wideband programs having long-term effects.
  • Develops/presents briefings to convey strategic vision or organizational policies.
  • Recommends decisions and policies in planning for new Wideband SATCOM program requirements.

Qualifications: 

  • Active Top Secret security clearance, with SCI eligibility
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Must have 5 years’ Military SATCOM experience, with an emphasis on network control and satellite (ground equipment and spacecraft) operations.
  • Specific experience in RSCCE and WSOC operations is required.
  • Must have, or be able to immediately obtain, DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level 2 certification (e.g. Security+)

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Strong skill set with Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Working knowledge of RMF and cybersecurity requirements
  • Previous experience supporting DoD/government customers
  • Demonstrated ability to work and grow in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment\

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $100,500 - $186,500. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $87,500 - $162,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
