What the role will involve
This Production Support role plays a critical role in overseeing daily production operations, using judgement to ensure smooth workflow, efficient resource allocation, and consistent high-quality output to defined targets. This includes supporting shop floor staff, managing timekeeping and labour reconciliation, maintaining quality standards, making recommendations, and promoting lean manufacturing techniques. The role acts as the primary point of contact for operational issues on the shop floor and collaborates closely with Operations Management. The production support element of the role accounts for 60% of the postholder’s time. For the remaining 40% of the time the postholder undertakes duties related to Assembly support.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Oversight & Resource Allocation
- Allocate daily tasks to Assembly Operators, Cell Leaders, and Technicians in line with the production schedule.
- Oversee production output to meet delivery and quality targets.
- Monitor product flow and escalate delays or issues to Operations Management.
- Ensure cell-tooling and resourcing requirements are met
- Monitor lock-up procedures
- Maintain production process boards and ensure shop floor housekeeping (5S+1 standards).
Staff Supervision & Timekeeping
- Indirectly oversee up to 30 Assembly Operators/Cell Leaders/Technicians. Point of contact on shop floor.
- Maintain and update attendance records and weekly attendance sheets.
- Manage staff lateness, absences, and holiday bookings, ensuring alignment with ADP and timecard submissions.
- Provide input for staff performance appraisals and training needs to Operations Management.
Labour Reconciliation
- Ensure accurate labour bookings for all relevant staff.
- Reconcile weekly time and attendance data and report/correct discrepancies.
- Validate contractor timesheets
- Provide overtime approval for weekend work.
Quality Control & Rework Management
- Own and maintain the Build Issues Log.
- Conduct or coordinate QC checks on repaired and reworked assets.
- Liaise with Cell-Leads and Quality Assurance to resolve issues.
- Lead weekly rework review meetings and escalate concerns.
Donor Radios & Asset Tracking
- Update Operations Issues Log weekly with defect and donor unit data.
- Ensure defective assets are clearly labelled with non-conformance details.
Reporting & Data Management
- Maintain accuracy of RMA and SRU Manual Track reports.
- Ensure data integrity and escalate anomalies to management.
- Submit weekly reports on findings, rework, and quality metrics.
Training & Development
- Train and sign off new Assembly Operators.
- Maintain and monitor training matrix to ensure compliance.
Lean & Health & Safety Practices
- Promote and implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
- Ensure all staff adhere to health and safety regulations.
Essential Requirements for the Role:
- Proven experience in a production, manufacturing, or operations role.
- Knowledge of manufacturing quality control and rework processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with production reporting tools.
- High attention to detail with the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
Additional Skills and Experience:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to allocate tasks effectively based on team skills.
- Proactive in identifying and resolving production issues.
- Experience promoting and implementing lean manufacturing principles.
- Capable of acting as the primary point of contact for shop floor operations.
