The Senior Manager – Operations & Technical Engineering leads operational and technical functions across manufacturing, repair, and customer-returned products, ensuring high performance in quality, efficiency, and delivery. This role is responsible for driving continuous improvement, implementing innovative technologies, and influencing strategic direction within the function. Leading a team of up to 40 employees (with direct reports managing smaller teams), the position combines people leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight to deliver short- to mid-term business results. The role works closely with senior colleagues, both globally and UK, customers, and vendors to enhance processes and achieve organisational objectives.
What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Lead and manage one or more teams or a department, including workforce planning, performance management, and employee development
- Own all operational activities related to product manufacture, repair, and customer returned products through warranty processes
- Provide technical leadership and guidance for all customer returned products and engineering-related activities within the facility
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise throughput, yield, and quality across systems, processes, and procedures
- Monitor build and repair issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions
- Develop and execute operational plans aligned to functional strategies with a one to two year impact horizon
- Manage maintenance and calibration of all operational equipment, including test equipment, thermal chambers, and cooling systems
- Oversee Customer Furnished Equipment (CFE), including buffer stock and returned products
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree with significant experience in operations, engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive experience leading multi-level teams, including managers and supervisors, within a manufacturing or technical environment
- Strong background in managing product manufacture, repair operations, and customer returned product processes
- Experience in developing and executing operational plans and contributing to functional strategy
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance, calibration processes, and operational facility management
- Experience managing budgets, resources, or departmental financial performance
- Broad technical expertise across engineering or related disciplines, or deep specialisation in a specific technical area
