Job Description:

 

The AUV Systems Business Unit Chief Engineer is responsible for delivering the technical, cost and schedule performance for all engineering content for a program portfolio. S/he provides strategic technical leadership, establishing and directing all aspects of the business unit engineering policies, objectives and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals.  S/he is responsible for maintaining adequate resources for all engineering functions in the pursuit of the portfolio’s strategic goals and operational plans.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading an Integrated Product Team (IPT) ensuring technical, cost and schedule execution of the Engineering content of the program. The position requires flexibility to manage multiple customer requirements (cost, schedule, technical capabilities), while using analytical and strategic skills to guide the engineering team to successful program deliveries of customer needs. A key part of this role is to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries and ensure programs are smoothly transitioned to production and deployment phases. The Chief Engineer must be able to interact with Division peers, Sector, Segment and Corporate technical leaders and diverse customers. The successful candidate is an experienced technical and business professional who is able to focus simultaneously on near and long term objectives. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

 

•Build, lead and manage the cross-functional engineering IPT dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the program. 

•Technical, cost and schedule accountability for technical project execution. Manage contract change and all phases of the portfolio from capture to sustaining.

•Management of engineering staffing demand and allocation of resources

•Planning and execution of product development, from product definition through production transition to meet portfolio goals and objectives.

•Manage technical, cost and schedule for Internal Research and Development (IRAD) portfolio

•Decision maker for high level / high impact engineering technical issues.

•Develop and support a culture of continuous improvement and best practices.

•Maintain a climate of fostering a high level of employee motivation, performance, and commitment. Oversees staffing plans and reviews work plans and schedules for each phase of a project in accordance with time limitations and funding.

•Represents engineering organization with major customers and stakeholders.

 

Qualifications: 

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree in Engineering or an MBA and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.  In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

•10+ years of applicable experience in a product development role; DoD experience a must, with 10 years experience leading cross functional teams

•Experience leading large engineering organizations that are geographically diverse

Must hold an active Secret level Security Clearance, which requires US Citizenship
