Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer with a software background to participate in the integration, debug, test/regression test, release, and maintain complex software-driven systems across various platforms. The ideal candidate should have hands-on software engineering experience to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing system solutions.
EMSS is a Satellite-based Personal Communications System (PCS), utilizing a commercial satellite infrastructure to provide voice and low data rate services from a mobile, lightweight terminal through a DoD dedicated gateway which accesses the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN). It can provide secure services, in addition to non-secure access to commercial telephone services.
This role will be in Herndon VA.
Essential Functions:
- Involved in development and delivery of a product/configuration item within technical objectives; shares the cost and schedule objectives with the PE
- Involved in the system lifecycle activities including requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and prepare Release Readiness Review deck
- Understands & analyze the critical and driving paths to ensure tasks are linked properly and flow correctly
- Work with Project Engineer to plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering activities for assigned projects
- Identifies and communicates technical scope of work, cost, and schedule risk and formulates schedule "What-If" assessments with the PE
- Involved in analyzing, enhancing, and extending existing software systems, including debugging, feature development, and ongoing maintenance
- Analyze and define requirements, interfaces, and performance criteria
- Conduct risk analysis, root cause investigation, and corrective actions to resolve issues resulted from regression test
- Implement and support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment frameworks
- Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with software developers, DevOps, and project managers
- Develop software components and scripts as part of system integration, automation, and validation
- Oversee software configuration and documentation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
- 3+ years of experience in systems engineering
- Professional experience with software programming in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, Java, Go)
- Professional experience with version control Bitbucket/Git, DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes), and software configuration management
- Experience with software development and debugging
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Secret Clearance is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of system integration, APIs, and cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with version control Bitbucket/Git, DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes), and software configuration management
- Experience with development programs using Agile Scrum, Agile SAFe, and DevOps
- Relevant certifications such as INCOSE® (ASEP, CSEP, ESEP)
- Coursework and/or experience in systems engineering, systems architecture, systems analysis and design, system performance modeling, integration and/or project management, and/or model-based systems engineering
- Communication and presentation skills and the ability to work harmoniously in a team environment with government customers and other contractors
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience with tools, such as MagicDraw, Cameo, JAMA, DOORS, Enterprise Architect, Rhapsody, and other RM/PLM tools would also be a plus
- Experience on projects/programs involving the Iridium Space-based Cellular Network
- Experience on projects/programs involving Starlink and/or other P-Leo constellations
- Familiar with one or more of source code repository tools
- Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)
- Experience with Linux/Unix systems and shell scripting
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
