Job Description:
Aerojet-Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies Company, is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Sr. Specialist, Environmental Health & Safety in our Daytona Beach, FL location. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations. Work to reduce company risk and liability in all aspects of EHS. Assists with a variety of duties including but not limited to: sampling, observations, training, and inspections. Works with stakeholders in the organization during space planning, building expansions and/or other changes in facilities or work areas to ensure EHS requirements and regulations are met. Assists with root cause analysis when EHS incidents occur and recommends corrective action where environmental, health and safety hazards exist. Responsible for monitoring and driving sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate will ensure that safety procedures and rules are followed on the manufacturing floor, as well as at the off-site assembly and processing areas.
Essential Functions:
- Perform hazard analysis and risk assessments.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections to identify and eliminate non-compliance issues and ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Conduct site assessments to identify hazardous waste and to determine the appropriate disposal methods.
- Develop and implement hazardous waste management plans, procedures, and programs.
- Coordinate and oversee the collection, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations pertaining to hazardous waste management.
- Provide training and education for staff on hazardous waste handling and disposal procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of hazardous waste handling and disposal activities
- Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous waste, such as spills or leaks, and coordinating cleanup efforts.
- Collaborate with other environmental specialists and regulatory agencies on hazardous waste management issues
- Stay updated with changes in waste regulations and industry best practices
- Manage projects related to energetics and safety, including participation in incident investigation, risk management, and process hazard analysis.
- Evaluate program documents and resolve all safety issues.
- Analyze and perform assessments on all safety hazards and recommend improvements to all engineering processes and ensure optimal integration of safety features.
- Develop and implement all enterprise safety policies and coordinate with management staff to identify all risks and prepare reports for same.
- Generation and maintenance of Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard Logs.
- Conduct training and communication campaigns to raise site-wide safety awareness.
- Serve as interface and liaisons with employees, managers, customers, auditors, and regulators.
- 15% travel required (including travel to Cape Canaveral facility).
Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and a minimum of 6 years of prior EH&S relevant experience, OR a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior EH&S related experience; OR in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior EH&S related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Proven experience as a Hazardous Waste Management Specialist or similar role
- Strong communication and training skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping skills
- Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 General Industry standards
- Knowledge of standards RCRA, OSHA, DOT, HAZWOPER, NFPA, NEC, and ANSI including familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledgeable in munitions, explosives, and energetic materials, and related disciplines, the effects of munitions, the means of preventing or reducing explosive mishaps, and the relationship between quantity-distance siting criteria and personnel safety.
- Experience and/or training knowledge of Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety NFPA 70E and Propellant, Energetics & Pyrotechnics.
- Prior Industrial Hygiene experience
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or equivalent System Safety methodology.
- Must be familiar with the generation and maintenance of Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard Logs.
- Professional designation preferred (ASP, CSP, CIH or CHMM)
- Operations Safety experience with flight hardware preferred
