Job Description:  

Seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 4 years of experience to work with a cross-functional team to develop ground-based, space surveillance optical systems. The position will support the system hardware, and will interface with Designers, Systems Engineers, as well as other engineering disciplines, Program Managers, and customer counterparts. The position will require performing the mechanical engineering activities related to the design, analysis, documentation, processing, fabrication, assembly and qualification of product & infrastructure to the specification requirements typically with stringent technical, schedule, and process requirements.

 Essential Functions: 

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams in the development of new solutions.
  • Perform system and component level analyses and offer solutions related to mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems. Types of analysis include thermal, fluid, structural, and power.
  • Support the mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of designs
  • Support the development of relevant design control documentation
  • Support the development and implementation of test protocols for both informal and formal design testing
  • Support the development of written assembly and test procedures for new designs
  • Assist in the generation of technical content for bids: scope capture, requirements development, materials pricing, and labor estimates as required
  • Travel domestically and abroad may be required

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from ABET accredited program) and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in the design and development of mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated CAD experience, PTC CREO/Windchill, SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with FEM and CFD analysis tools
  • Demonstrated experience with numerical analysis tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of standard ASME Y14.5M-2018 and GD&T

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with the design and testing of opto-mechanical systems
  • Experience with SolidWorks/PDM, Windchill PDM
  • Experience using ANSYS, MSC Nastran, FloTHERM, Matlab, MathCAD
  • Basic understanding of control systems

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $88,500 - $164,500. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New  York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $76,500 - $142,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to  experience and geographic location.
