Job Description:

As the premier provider of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission solutions for the United States Space Force, L3Harris is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to support our Command and Control (C2) Product Line. The successful candidate will be responsible for fielding relational and non-relational databases across multiple software programs, ensuring optimal performance, security, and integrity of our database systems. This position is onsite in Colorado Springs, CO.

Essential Functions:

Design, implement, and maintain database systems for high availability and performance.
Optimize database structures for efficiency and effectiveness in supporting complex queries and data retrieval.
Ensure database security measures are in place and up-to-date in compliance with ITAR and EAR regulations.
Collaborate with software development teams to integrate databases with existing systems.
Conduct regular tests and troubleshooting to ensure databases are error-free and operate reliably.
Document the database setup, architecture, and procedures for maintenance and troubleshooting.
Responsible for providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees.
Manages complex projects or processes with general oversight.
Communicates within and outside of own function or business area and has responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization.
Up to 10% travel may be required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance.
5 years of experience as a Database Engineer or similar role.
Proven experience with database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
Proven experience with database design, normalization, and schema creation.
Experience with database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and query optimization.
Experience with containerized database operators/cluster managers.
Experience with replication, database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
Strong understanding of SQL.
Knowledge of non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or others.
Knowledge of best practices in database security.
Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with different levels of management and staff.

Preferred Additional Skills:

Active U.S. DoD Top Secret security clearance.
Experience with Postgres in a VMware Kubernetes Services/VMware Tanzu environment.
Experience with cloud-based database services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Experience with database administration in a Linux/Unix environment.
Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Bash.
Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
Active Security+ CE Certification

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $111,500 - $207,500. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $97,000 - $180,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
