Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies has an opening for a Scientist, Systems Engineer (Geolocation and Tracking) to join our Mission Analysis Group (MAG). The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse collaborative geographically dispersed team to develop various analytic toolsets focused on constructive simulation and experimentation across multi-domains, for a variety of customers, both internal and external contracts. Toolsets are used in a variety of simulation events ranging from customer engagement, proposal support to advanced concept exploration.
Essential Functions:
- Analysis and development of algorithms for signal processing, time-frequency analysis, target geo-location and tracking, data association, detection, estimation, and optimization
- Design multi-domain simulation capabilities in Matlab, C++, Python, AFSIM, STK in support of MAG Technology and Mission Roadmaps, Internal Research and Development efforts, and Programs of record
- Integrate other Government-off-the-Shelf (GOTS) and Customer-off-the-Shelf (COTS) simulations, frameworks, models and analytic toolsets to existing S/W infrastructure i.e. Matlab, C++, Python, AFSIM, STK
- Build and maintain analytic toolsets representing each phase of the find, fix, target, track, engage, and assess (F2T2EA) chain using sensor, effects, and communications technologies, including decision support aids i.e. data visualization, Unity-game engines to support operations assessment, as well as lessons learned development/refinement experience
- Document model specifications for establishing a repository of simulation capabilities, frameworks, algorithms, system models, analytic toolsets etc. for reuse at multiple classification levels, while maintain configuration management protocols
- Support programs and pursuits by creating models, simulations, and analysis products. Determine requirements, develop simulation software, troubleshoot existing simulation capabilities, and create software designs and test plans
- Support requirements development, system verification, and concept of operations (CONOPS) development as well as work with Technical Leaders & SMEs to ensure modeling, simulation, analysis capabilities meet operational mission requirements
- Develop new simulation capabilities and processes for employment, enhance current analytic toolset
- Support internal and external technical expo/roadshows by providing knowledge sharing of signature simulation capabilities and products
- Support knowledge transfer i.e. coaching and mentorship of Junior technical talent across the MAG
Qualifications:
- Must have and be able to maintain a DoD TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience in STEM fields or closely related field and 12+ years of simulation software engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of computer simulation software architecture and operating systems
- Proven to develop, test, and field highly technical algorithms for signal analysis and implementation in mission analysis models
- Experience developing simulation capabilities in Gov/Industry MS&A analytic tools and frameworks
- Experience with scripting languages such as Anaconda with Python, simulation code development in Matlab, C++, Python, AFSIM, STK
- Agile development methodology and Atlassian tools: JIRA, Confluence, etc.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Previous partnering experience with academic institutions, FFRDCs, and industry
- Systems analysis, modeling, simulation, algorithm development
- Tracking and location algorithms to include Direction of Arrival (DOA), Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA), Frequency Difference of Arrival (FDOA)
- Prior experience with JavaScript, MySQL
- Prior experience with operator in the loop virtual simulation
- Prior experience with DevOps technologies such as virtualization, scripting, Git, testing and automation
- Prior experience with machine learning, data analysis, and advanced algorithm design and development
- Strong depth of knowledge in programming languages, compilers, and application execution
- Advanced domain knowledge with one or more of the following: aerodynamic systems, orbital mechanics, signal processing, sensor systems, and RF or EO/IR physics
- Advanced simulation software development experience in any Gov/Industry MS&A analytic tools: Matlab, C++, Python, AFSIM, STK
- Target geo-location and tracking algorithm development
- Kalman filter design
- Estimation theory and inverse problems
- Data association and track fusion
- Kinematic modeling
- Navigation and transfer alignment algorithm development

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont New Jersey and New York State is $130,500-$242,500. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $150,000-$278,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
