Job Title: Lead Software Engineer, Radar Systems
Job Code: 40435
Job Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Job Schedule: 9/80 schedule (Every Other Friday Off)
Job Description:
The Lead Software Engineer, Radar Systems, is a hands-on technical lead for a new program and leads a small software engineering team building radar algorithms and software for the initial baseline. GBRD is a L3Harris radar software modernization effort focused on delivering a common, open-interfaces baseline that supports Missile Warning, Missile Defense, and Space Domain Awareness missions through radar signal processing, radar simulation, tracking and correlation, and mission tasking and scheduling software. Using comprehensive knowledge of radar-processing algorithms, benchmark and truth-data evaluation, tracking logic, and mission-processing behavior, the role provides technical leadership for a team responsible for turning sensor inputs and mission demand into credible, resilient mission outputs. The team's mission is to mature the radar-centric backbone of GBRD across pulse-to-track processing, simulation and hardware-integrated test support, multi-mission prioritization and routing, and mission continuity during degraded operating conditions.
Essential Functions
- Lead a hands-on software engineering team delivering radar-processing, simulation, and mission-algorithm software for a new program initial implementation.
- Make architecture decisions within the team scope and represent radar, simulation, and mission-processing tradeoffs in cross-team and program-level architecture discussions.
- Contribute directly to implementation, peer review, integration planning, troubleshooting, performance analysis, and technical risk reduction.
- Coordinate across teams to keep interfaces aligned and the baseline operationally coherent.
- Drive development of radar processing, simulation, tracking, and mission algorithms, including performance evaluation and integration support across lab and hardware-connected test environments.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of technical leadership experience leading small engineering teams in software delivery.
- Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience with phased-array radar, beam scheduling, sub-array allocation, or beamforming concepts.
- Experience developing and integrating radar or mission-algorithm software, with depth in one or more of these areas:
- Radar DSP or signal-processing software
- Radar simulation, hardware-integrated test, benchmark, or truth-data-driven evaluation
- Radar tracking, correlation, propagation, or custody algorithms
- Mission management, tasking, scheduling, or degraded-operations workflows
- Experience with performance-critical or mission-critical software in Linux or backend environments.
- Proficiency in backend systems programming languages such as C++ and Go.
- Experience with radar signal-processing, detection, clutter mitigation, or measurement-extraction techniques.
- Experience with repeatable benchmark harnesses, truth-data packages, quantitative performance evidence, or live-versus-sim comparison workflows.
- Experience with simulation, distributed test environments, hardware-integrated test, or live-versus-sim evaluation workflows.
- Experience with orbital, ballistic, maneuver-aware, or other track-propagation approaches.
- Experience with data association, correlation, custody logic, or track-continuity metrics.
- Experience with machine-to-machine tasking interfaces, mission prioritization, scheduler behavior, or operator-in-the-loop recovery workflows.
- Experience tuning high-throughput or low-latency algorithm software using parallel processing, GPU acceleration, or similar performance techniques.
