Job Description:  

L3Harris is seeking an experienced RF engineer to support multiple programs in its Space and Airborne Systems division. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in satellite communication systems, link budget analysis, and RF component troubleshooting. This role requires a detailed-oriented professional with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with vendors and cross-functional teams. The individual should be versed in the complete design life cycle.

Essential Functions: 

Project Management

  • Manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross-functional teams
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and leadership to novice engineers

System Design and Analysis

  • Perform detailed link budget analysis for satellite communication systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Perform system design/analysis and SWaP analysis
  • Evaluate and analyze system performance metrics to identify potential improvements
  • Determine design approaches and parameters
  • Interpret and write technical requirements for satellite communication systems and components, ensuring requirements are clear, concise, and aligned with project objectives
  • Develop and update system documentation, including interconnect documents, parts lists, configuration procedures, and test procedures

Component Selection and Evaluation

  • Select and evaluate SATCOM components such as High Power Amplifiers (HPAs), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), converters, and translators
  • Utilize modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results
  • Ensure components meet system requirements and performance specifications

Testing and Troubleshooting

  • Perform RF/Microwave component testing and evaluation including s-parameter, large signal, and modulated signal measurements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to RF Line Replaceable Units (LRUs)
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to maintain system integrity

Technical Subcontract Management

  • Manage the Technical Subcontract design of RF subassemblies/LRUs.
  • Write and maintain Source Control Documents (SCDs) and Vendor Item Descriptions (VIDs)
  • Communicate effectively with vendors to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely delivery of components and services

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering or a related field and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance is required
  • 5+ years experience in satellite communication systems and link budget analysis
  • 3+ years experience with RF LRU troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Experience with common commercial RF design and analysis tools to design and analyze RF circuits and systems (i.e., ADS, HFSS, CST, MATLAB, etc.)
  • 3+ years experience interpreting and documenting system requirements

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of SATCOM components such as HPAs, LNAs, converters, and translators.
  • Ability to develop and maintain detailed system documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for effective vendor management and discrepancy resolution.
  • Experience on high power phased array Radar systems.
  • Ability to assess and provide direction for make/buy decisions and selection of strategic suppliers.
  • Experience with or a strong desire to lead designs executed by subcontractor. 

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $108,500.00 -$201,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
