Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days- totaling 80 hours worked- and have every other Friday off

Position Overview:

Responsible for architecting, designing, developing, modifying, evaluating and integrating Radio Frequency (RF) hardware at the subsystem level. Primary area of focus will be on Electronic Warfare (EW) applications.  Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes electrical requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints as well as design for manufacture viability. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. Able to identify component operational characteristics that may impact system performance and/or sustainability. May also review vendor capability to support development and manage supplier technical performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze top level specifications for RF subsystems and develop top level architecture, including partitioning of functionality amongst lower-level subassemblies
  • Decompose specifications into detailed functional requirements at the card/module level
  • Perform detailed electromechanical design of top-level subsystem in coordination with all design functions
  • Design, analyze, and integrate RF subsystems using direct RF sampling and high-speed mixed-signal architectures.
  • Perform trade studies involving ADC/DAC selection, analog front-end design, spurious performance, instantaneous bandwidth, SFDR, SNR, ENOB, and dynamic range.
  • Collaborate with digital, FPGA, DSP, software, and hardware design teams to partition functions between analog and digital domains.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical leadership on architecture and implementation decisions.
  • Work with manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to transition designs into production.
  • Oversee cost/schedule/technical progress of RF subsystems
  • Develop test specifications and execute design verification tests for RF Subsystems, support integration at system level
  • Review the work of junior engineers and provide guidance where needed, perform technical mentoring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with subassembly level RF design (circuit card and/or RF module)
  • Experience with frequency synthesizer design with expertise in PLL architecture, DDS, frequency planning, low noise references, clock distribution, and mixed-signal RF implementation tradeoffs.
  • Experience leading complex root cause/corrective action analyses
  • Experience with ADCs/DACs, RFSoC platforms, high-speed JESD interfaces, or digitally intensive receiver architectures.
  • Familiarity with wideband tuners, channelized receivers, beamforming, digital down conversion, and spectral analysis pipelines.
  • Experience with FPGA/DSP integration and understanding of digital signal processing allocation.
  • Experience with system-level analysis of spur budgets, calibration strategies, and converter nonlinearity effects.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC, environmental qualification, and military/defense development standards.
  • Familiarity with earned value measurement, experience as an integrated product team leader
  • Experience with requirements management software (DOORS, etc.)
  • Understanding of operation and theory of EW systems
  • Thorough understanding of key RF parameters (bandwidth, gain compression, intermodulation distortion, noise figure, spurious emissions, etc.)
  • Experience designing or integrating RF receiver/exciter subsystems using direct RF sampling or high-speed data converters.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Sampling theory
    • Nyquist zone planning
    • Aliasing and filtering
    • ADC/DAC performance metrics
    • Clocking and jitter effects
    • Phase noise and spectral purity
  • Experience with top level RF system design tools (Genesys, SystemVue, or equivalent)
  • Ability to develop and interpret subsystem requirements, block diagrams, and interface definitions.
