Job Description:
The Facilities/EHS Sr. Specialist is a dual role supporting our Carlsbad California site that will be responsible for ensuring that all company facilities are comprehensively maintained in accordance with company / industry standards and configured to meet the needs of the business. Additionally, this role is responsible for the Environmental, Health, and Safety of the employees and facility.
Essential Functions:
Facilities Management and Maintenance:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of building maintenance, contractor management, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural systems.
- Oversee and manage building services including custodial, grounds, snow removal, and cafeteria services.
- Develop and implement a proactive maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of facilities and equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations or breakdowns and coordinate rapid and effective solutions.
- Develop and implement energy-saving initiatives, cost reduction initiatives and sustainability practices within facility operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Collaborate with other departments to support company-wide operations and events.
- Serve as the Project Manager for facility refurbishment, renovations and modernization.
- Perform light maintenance tasks as necessary.
- Partner with Procurement to solicit bids and manage outside vendors and contractors for services beyond the skill level of in-house maintenance employees; negotiate contracts for best value pricing, create SOWs
- Perform space planning / space management analysis
- Coordinate and manage Agency Inspections -- Fire Department, elevator, roof, sling & hoist, city inspectors, etc.
- Provide input to Capital Improvement Plans and Operational Budgets for the site, including cost projects and analysis.
- Prepare facilities for changing weather conditions (earthquake, heavy rains, etc.)
- Monitor and operate the CMMS / Work Order program at the site (PMs, trouble calls, energy mgmt. systems, etc.)
- Active Secret or TS US Security Clearance or have the ability to obtain one.
Health and Safety:
- Coordinating, or supporting critical EHS projects and/or programs including but not limited to: Ergonomics; Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Personal Protective Equipment Program (PPE); Hazard Communication; Employee Exposures; Laser and Radiation Safety; Hearing Conservation; Health Safety Management Systems; regulated/hazardous waste management
- Coordinating risk assessments and working to deploy corrective measures to continuously reduce site hazard risk profile.
- Conducting training and providing guidance to site personnel, leadership, and contractors to ensure compliance with regulatory and company training requirements.
- Leading incident investigations, determining root causes, developing corrective actions, preparing EHS alerts, and conducting closure verification activities.
- Assisting with various types of sampling for industrial hygiene exposure and environmental purposes (including associated analytical interpretation and report-writing).
- Reviewing current and proposed regulations and company requirements for applicability; recommend appropriate program measures to ensure compliance. Develop proactive strategies to prepare for upcoming changes and drive actions to ensure compliance with regulatory (federal, state, county, local) and corporate requirements.
- Supporting the sustainability program by establishing best practices, projects, management of change, tracking and measuring effectiveness and fluctuations in solid waste, water, and energy use.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant facilities experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related facilities experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related facilities experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in facilities management or maintenance, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to develop and manage budgets effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $90,000-$167,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
