Job Description:
L3Harris is currently seeking an Engineering Director and Chief Engineer to lead engineering for the Tactical Data Links (TDL) Division within our Spectrum Superiority Sector. The Engineering Director will lead a team of 150+ engineers and managers in support of the TDL product and program portfolio. This role will coordinate all TDL engineering needs for the site and direct engineering execution for the programs, proposals and pursuits in this portfolio. The Engineering Director will report to the Vice President of Engineering of the Spectrum Superiority sector.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and manage the multi-disciplinary TDL engineering team, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management to help build a best-in-class Engineering team
- Direct engineering program technical, schedule and cost performance for TDL projects to include proposal reviews and cost approvals, engineering program reviews and oversight of key technical decisions to meet quality and customer objectives.
- Hire, attract, retain and grow top talent, creating a cohesive culture that fosters innovation, execution, transparency and collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain) to ensure continuous production of our TDL products.
- Develop and manage TDL engineering budgets and resource allocation.
- Represent TDL in Sector engineering strategy discussions.
- Coordinate all TDL engineering support (personnel, lab resources, tools) required to perform on all programs and product developments within the business area. Closely track engineering demand and ensure the team is right-sized, properly skilled, and equipped.
- Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for engineering and management staff within the organization
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to new business pursuits by growing cross-functional relationships in new business development and across business areas
- Technical training of the organization and advancement of technology through industry interaction and continued education of technical staff
- Partner and work very closely with the Engineering Leadership team, Business Development and Program Management to ensure strategy alignment, execution of projects and cross-team collaboration to achieve Sector objectives
- Active U.S. security clearance or the ability to obtain one. TS/SCI preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related (preferred areas of study include Electrical Engineering experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Advanced degree in Engineering or Management.
- Extensive Electrical Engineering experience, including work in the Defense industry.
- Proven senior management experience leading multiple teams and sub-managers.
- Demonstrated technical leadership on large, complex programs (e.g., project engineer or technical lead).
- Expertise in system-level development: requirements, analysis, integration, and risk mitigation for large communications systems.
- Strong background in DoD proposals/new business pursuits and managing engineering content.
- Deep knowledge of Link 16 tactical data links and Agile development in a government contractor setting.
- Proficiency in Earned Value Management (EVMS), metrics, and data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to engage engineers and executives; collaborative and trusted team leader.
- Ability to translate vision into clear priorities and navigate matrix organizations effectively.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $184,000-$341,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
