Job Description:

Aerojet-Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies Company, is seeking a highly motivated, experienced System Safety Engineer. In this role, you will be part of a team of experienced specialty engineers working on a missile hardware and launching system program. The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to analysis and design support efforts for all aspects of system safety, ensuring that safety is integrated into the hardware and the accompanying systems of this program. Coleman Aerospace is a prime tactical and strategic missile target system provider supporting ballistic missile defense testing. High-Fidelity Air-Launched one, two, and three stage ballistic missile targets are their primary product line. This position is located in Cape Canaveral, FL.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Implement and evaluate all System and Operations Safety programs
  • Evaluate program documents and resolve all safety issues
  • Analyze and perform assessment on all safety hazards and recommend improvements to all engineering processes and ensure optimal integration of safety features
  • Coordinate with system engineering process for all use cases, identify all safety requirements, and prepare materials/presentations for safety evaluations as required
  • Evaluate all system engineering documents, participate in test activities, ensure compliance to all safety requirements, and evaluate all system engineering documents
  • Develop and implement all enterprise safety policies and coordinate with management staff to identify all risks and prepare reports for same
  • Evaluate all system safety requirements and coordinate with company engineers to maintain quality of all processes
  • Provide training to all personnel for all safety evaluation processes and oversee all program activities
  • Generation and maintenance of Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard Logs
  • Perform periodic safety inspections to support operations
  • Assists management in accident investigations and recommends corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections to identify and eliminate non-compliance issues.
  • Conduct training and communication campaigns to raise site-wide safety awareness.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and minimum 6 years of prior relevant Energetics Safety Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or equivalent System Safety methodology.
  • Familiar with the generation and maintenance of Safety Assessment Reports and Hazard Logs. 
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/CFR 1910 General Industry standards
  • Operations Safety experience with flight hardware preferred
  • Confident and comfortable addressing safety behavior of all levels of personnel.
  • Experience with having completed safety training courses for working in the vicinity of, handling, testing, and installation of explosive devices. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (e.g. Word, Excel)
