Job Description:
Aerojet-Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies Company is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Telemetry Engineer at our Cape Canaveral, FL location. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and operation of telemetry systems used for the collection of launch vehicle data during ground testing and flight. Coleman Aerospace is looking for a self-motivated individual with experience in PCM based telemetry systems. This includes telemetry stream design, database development, and data post-processing. Additionally, this candidate will support the generation of telemetry displays based on the needs of the real-time data reviewers for each mission.
At this location, Coleman Aerospace produces complex single, two, and three stage launch vehicles used to support ballistic missile defense testing.
Essential Functions:
- Support data post-processing, responsible for updating and maintaining reduction tools developed by Coleman and written in C/C++.
- Work under general direction and exercise latitude in determining methods and approaches.
- May plan schedules and arrange own activities in accomplishing objectives. Completed work is reviewed to ensure objectives are met for desired results.
Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. Requires strong knowledge of job area.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experienced in complex telemetry systems consisting of encoders, transmitters, encrypters, decryptors, and decommutators.
- Ability to implement telemetry PCM encoder and decommutator databases.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams for troubleshooting and ability to understand data flow within a telemetry system.
- Experience in RF transmit subsystems and associated components for proper setup of telemetry transmitters, antennas, coupling devices, cabling, and test equipment used to test those components
- Experience in telemetry RF path characteristics and the variables requiring careful considerations for mission planning
- Experience in receiving system characteristics for obtaining radiated telemetry data
- Working knowledge of antennas, feeds, filters, RF signal distribution, receivers and combiners
- Familiar with the use of oscilloscopes, test equipment, and probes including network analyzers for measuring magnitude and phase of input RF signals and spectrum analyzers for analyzing frequency spectrums
- Familiarization with Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM) and other similar technologies
- Previous experience reading, understanding, and writing C/C++ source code.
- Capable of obtaining an FAA Class III (or higher) medical certificate, able to meet USAF Aerospace physiological standards, satisfactorily complete the associated training, and willing to participate in launch operations aboard USAF aircraft
- Experience in writing/maintaining object oriented C/C++ code in support of data reduction and post-processing
- Previous experience working on Range Commander’s Council (RCC) requirements
- Experience in operating and troubleshooting RF systems
