Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a skilled Lead, Product Support Engineer at our NASA Kennedy Space Center, Florida customer site with a strong background in Systems Engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with assembly and testing large liquid rockets or their components. They will perform product support engineering activities and assist as a technical resource interfacing with various customers including NASA and their other contractor partners. This role requires the ability to obtain a NASA background security clearance for access to the launch site and associated processing facilities. The role will report to the RS-25 Program Office in Los Angeles, California and be based in Florida.
Essential Functions:
- Provide engineering support for the delivery, integration, testing and launch of the RS-25 engine on NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS)
- Analyze and interpret technical data (e.g., drawings, manuals, specifications, etc.) to develop technical procedures for the integration and testing of the RS-25 engine within the SLS rocket
- Support integrated testing and launch activities from the data support rooms located at Kennedy Space Center
- Project management of large-scale activities involving identification of required support personnel and material, schedules of milestone activities, and overall budgetary requirements
- Develop/update Operational Maintenance Requirements applicable to all phases of activity for the RS-25 engine once delivered to the launch site
- Plan/execute activities to sustain the operation and maintenance of systems to ensure mission capability
- Serve as a technical liaison between the various customers located at Kennedy Space Center and the design center located in Los Angeles, California with responsibilities to include presentations to customer Program leadership
- Travel is estimated at 10%
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of relevant experience
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Project management experience with projects involving requiring significant support from multiple organizations and schedule and budgetary requirements driven by external customers
- Prior experience supporting NASA Programs (Space Shuttle, Artemis/SLS)
- Prior experience with integration of liquid rocket engines into their associated launch vehicle
