Job Description:

The Aerojet Rocketdyne Segment of L3Harris is seeking a Specialist Project Engineer to join our Valves and Actuators Product and Component Engineering department in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area). You will join a team working on the development, fabrication and test of propulsion system valve and actuator hardware for defense and space applications. The Lead engineer provides technical oversight and project leadership for development and procurement of in-house and supplier-based valve products. Valve products include a broad range of liquid propellant (cryogenic, gaseous, and storable propellants) rocket propulsion fluid control components and may include actuators and electronic controls. Position reports to the Valve & Actuator Project Engineering Manager and is assigned to Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).  

 

Essential Functions:

Under general direction and oversight, the Specialist Engineer determines approaches to objectives, demonstrating general knowledge and application of engineering principles, concepts, and practices and knowledge of project management.  Using project management tools, the specialist project engineer is frequently responsible for managing complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross-functional teams.

  • Development and fabrication support of rocket engine valve and actuator components. Translates engineering and scientific concepts from preliminary ideas through product life cycle.
  • Supplier integration with external valve and component suppliers ensuing requirements are achieved on-time and within budget.
  • Interfaces with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to provide coordination of technical, schedule and cost solutions to team objectives.
  • Analyzes and verifies valve and actuator design and performance for adequacy and reliability. Supports investigation and resolution of hardware and process anomalies and issues identified by preventative action/corrective action boards or safety initiative activities.
  • Develops trade studies, design concepts, systems integration and component-level test plans.

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field with minimum 4 years of related engineering experience.  Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related engineering experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, develop planning and procedures for assembly and test; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; effective presentation and report writing skills will be required.
  • Experience with rocket propulsion systems desired. Understanding and use of analytical, design or process procedures pertinent to Rocket and/or aircraft engine valve and actuator advanced development. 
  • Project skills in developing MS Project scheduling and Earned Value Measurement Systems is a plus.
  • May require the use of engineering test equipment, CAD, and/or various computer systems.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment expected.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are highly desirable.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $90,500.00-$168,500.00. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $79,000.00-$146,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
