Job Description:
The Environment, Health and Safety Specialist, will have a strong background in industrial hygiene and will be responsible for a variety of health and safety programs, such as respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, ionizing/non-ionizing radiation, ergonomics, hearing conservation, hazard communication, electrical safety, NFPA 70E, contractor safety, and machine safeguarding.
The candidate will oversee and audit all aspects of these programs to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations, and will work with EHS management to implement best practices within the enterprise’s comprehensive safety management system. Assists with root cause analysis when EHS incidents occur and recommends corrective action where environmental, health and safety hazards exist. The ideal candidate will ensure that employees comply with safety procedures and policies to maintain the site’s safety culture.
Essential Functions:
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal EHS codes and regulations
- Conduct area inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies
- Conduct health and safety incident investigations, evaluations, and analysis of data to identify methodologies for continuous improvement for prevention of employee injuries/illnesses and hardware/process improvements
- Based on analysis of data, identify methodologies for continuous improvement to prevent employee injuries/illnesses and improve hardware/processes
- Analyze situations accurately and take effective corrective action to prevent injuries/illnesses or incidents
- Perform professional work in the research, compilation, analysis and presentation of EHS data
- Prepare a variety of technical reports, graphs and charts, and maintain accurate records and files
- Train other employees in all aspects of assigned programs
- Address groups and conduct EHS trainings or workshops
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization and other governmental agencies
- Interpret codes and standards
- Sustain the site’s Cal-OSHA VPP status
- Use various computer systems to develop safety statistics for the purpose of monitoring trends and establishing appropriate corrective actions
- Operate effectively in a team environment
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- 4+ years of experience within a health and safety role preferred
- B.S. degree in Occupational Safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety related discipline preferred
- Master’s degree preferred
- Certifications (CIH, CSP, CHMM) are preferred
- Familiarity with the Benchmark Gensuite software application
- Experience with development and/or execution of industrial hygiene plans
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $77,500-$144,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
