Job Description:

The Space Propulsion & Power Systems SP&PS CAD Services & Design Standards team at the Aerojet Rocketdyne segment of L3Harris is currently seeking an experienced highly motivated Product Definition specialist that will be responsible for generating and verifying product definition supporting the design engineers across SP&PS sites.

This experienced technical role is expected to help define, develop, and execute industry and company CAD Process standards to ensure high quality on-time product definition. Further expectations of this role will be to work closely with the enterprise CAD Services Standards team and continue to strengthen existing processes and deploy new processes in the area of Model Based Definition (MBD). This role requires the ability to work closely with multi-discipline collaborative and cross-functional teams to drive program drawing release milestones. This position requires taking a proactive approach to validate CAD product definition meets the needs of downstream users and continuous feedback to drive improved quality and efficiency. Effective communication methods are required to ensure success across disciplines at the site and the Aerojet Rocketdyne CAD Services Enterprise Team.

 

Essential Functions:

Under minimal supervision and following established procedures in accordance with contractual requirements and Aerojet Rocketdyne policy and procedures, this position performs engineering design assignments for preparation of engineering design documents and maintaining the design disclosure.

 

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Prepare product definition (CAD models, drawings or 3DPDFs).
  • Perform Verification (Checking) of Product Definition, tolerance stacks and calculations, includes models, drawings and PLM attributes and relationships.
  • Support both SP&PS and MSSL segments in the authoring and maintenance of CAD Process standards and Product Definition Requirements Manual (PDRM) initiatives.
  • Support MS Sharepoint365 sites and publications to document management systems.
  • Provide technical guidance in the proper Product Definition Methods to less senior CAD designers and to design support personnel.
  • Create, check and maintain design product definition (Models,  Drawings, or 3DPDFs) for engineering designs. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of design Models and/or preliminary conceptual design Models.
  • Maintains AR CAD Process standards on SharePoint and ADMS sites. Leverage technical writing skills to author AR technical CAD standards. Leverage knowledge of ASME drawing and modeling standards.
  • Performs CAD Services work including creating/revising 3D models & 2D drawings for standard COTS parts for AR library, drawing and design manual maintenance, coordinating specification updates, and other related department support. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate discipline and minimum 4 years of prior relevant design experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related design experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related design experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 4 years of 3D modeling/design experience with CAD systems (Creo 10.0 preferred) along with experience using CAD database management and PLM tools (Windchill preferred).
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Aerospace hardware.
  • Strong working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5 2018 Standard).
  • Ability to read and interpret product definition and related specifications per ASME Y14.100 and MIL-STD-31000.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), and MS SharePoint365 and document management systems management.
  • Design Checking experience preferred including verification of Model Based Definition per ASME Y14.41, Y14.47, MIL-STD-31000 and experience with electronic markup tools.
  • Prior experience with design or selection of standard hardware in mechanical systems (bolts/screws, washers, inserts, fluid fittings/seals, etc.) is a plus.
  • Project management experience and strong technical writing background or education.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $77,500 - $144,500. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $68,000 - $126,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
