Job Description:

L3Harris Missile Solutions is seeking a Manufacturing Process Quality Engineer to drive improvements in manufacturing process capability, stability, and robustness in support of Quality & Mission Assurance objectives. This role is one of three complementary positions within an integrated Q&MA execution team, contributing deep manufacturing process expertise while supporting the enterprise-wide Process Control Transformation initiative.

Based in Canoga Park, CA, this role focuses on understanding how manufacturing processes actually operate, identifying gaps in capability, control, and reliability, and partnering with manufacturing teams to strengthen process discipline. The role emphasizes real-time, proactive quality management - reinforcing the principle that quality is built in, not inspected in.

Essential Functions:

• Improve manufacturing processes by reducing variation, strengthening control, and elevating process capability (e.g., achieving Cpk > 1.33 on critical processes).
• Analyze process capability, stability, and failure modes using data-driven methods and digital quality systems.
• Develop and implement process improvements, mistake-proofing, and risk-based controls aligned with APQP principles and lifecycle integration.
• Apply and sustain SPC methods to support real-time, preventive process management across production lines.
• Support and improve APQP deliverables including PFDs, PFMEAs, control plans, and production readiness activities.
• Partner with operators, engineers, and supervisors to improve process understanding, ownership, and standard work discipline.
• Provide manufacturing process expertise for multi-site improvement initiatives as part of sector-wide process control deployment.
• Teach and coach teams on process discipline, APQP fundamentals, SPC tools, and digital process control systems (e.g., PIWEB and digital control-plan connections).
• Contribute to measurable reductions in cost of quality through proactive defect prevention and improved response speed.
• Travel up to 50%
• Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant Quality Manufacturing Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
• 3+ years of direct experience improving manufacturing processes in a production environment.
• 3+ years of experience analyzing manufacturing data and applying quantitative improvement methods.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, and mentor operators, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
• Experience in manufacturing and quality within defense, aerospace, automotive, or similar industries.
• Experience with APQP, SPC, PFMEA, control plans, and mistake-proofing.
• Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar standards.
• Experience with digital quality platforms (e.g., PIWEB, SPC systems, digital control plans) supporting enterprise process control.
• Prior leadership experience with direct reports or strong cross-functional influence.
• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or higher).
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Experience applying DOE and advanced analytics to process optimization.
• Exposure to AI-enabled quality or industrial analytics solutions tied to SPC/Process Control evolution.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $96,000 – $178,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
