Job Description:

 

The Product Definition, CAD Services & Design Standards Manager will lead the Canoga Park team of 10+ staff members, providing critical leadership for MSSL program product definition (PD). This role combines hands-on technical contribution (75%) with leadership responsibilities (25%), ensuring delivery of high-quality product definitions while driving continuous improvement and staff development.


The ideal candidate will have hands-on Creo CAD expertise. The selected candidate must be capable of serving as the primary technical resource for diagnosing and resolving complex Creo model and assembly issues across a large user base at the LA site and across the broader enterprise. This position will represent the LA site on the CAD and PLM Governance boards to act on behalf of the LA site program business needs while aligning with the overall common processes. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Creo CAD Technical Leadership 
    • Serve as the primary Creo subject matter expert (SME) for the LA site and enterprise-wide user community
    • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex Creo model and assembly issues across a large and diverse user base
    • Provide expert-level troubleshooting support for:
      • Part and assembly modeling failures
      • Top-down design structure issues
      • Drawing and annotation failures
      • Model-Based Definition (MBD) implementation challenges
      • Windchill PLM integration and data management issues
    • Develop and maintain Creo best practices, templates, and standard configurations for site-wide and enterprise use
    • Partner with enterprise CAD teams to resolve systemic Creo issues impacting multiple programs
    • Evaluate and implement Creo software updates and new functionality to improve productivity and quality
    • Provide hands-on Creo training and mentorship to CAD staff and engineering users across the LA site
  • Program Support & Technical Leadership
    • Create, maintain, and release Product Definitions for Canoga Park MSSL projects
    • Ensure CAD process discipline and technical excellence across all programs
    • Provide Product Definition BOE (Basis of Estimate) creation and review support to program teams
    • Proactively support Operations, Tooling, and Quality Centers of Excellence at Canoga Park site
  • Team Leadership & Management
    • Oversee daily task assignments and workload distribution for 10 CAD Services staff members plus contingent workforce
    • Lead employee development, training, and performance management
    • Manage department budgets and ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet program demands
    • Foster staff growth through clear goal-setting and skill development initiatives
    • Build strong collaborative relationships with program IPTs and functional leadership
  • Process Governance & Continuous Improvement
    • Represent Canoga Park MSSL program interests on the AR Segment CAD Process and Governance team
    • Implement and maintain AR CAD Standards across new and existing programs
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and participate in AR segment-wide projects
    • Deliver CAD Process training across the Canoga Park Design organization
    • Champion adoption of new methodologies (e.g., MBD) to enhance quality and release responsiveness and digital thread goals

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, or related technical field and a minimum of 9 years of related experience. Graduate Degree in Engineering, Design, or related technical field and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years prior experience in Engineering, Design, or related field. 

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • 9+ years of CAD experience with 3+ years in a leadership capacity - preferably in the Defense industry
  • Expert-level proficiency in Creo Parametric (PTC Creo) 
  • Experience investigating and resolving complex Creo model and assembly issues in a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Creo assembly structures (top-down and bottom-up design methodologies)
    • Creo drawing and GD&T annotation best practices
    • Creo configuration and customization (config.pro, mapkeys, etc.)
    • Creo Model-Based Definition (MBD) implementation
    • Creo-Windchill PLM integration and data management workflows
  • Experience supporting large user communities (50+ users) with Creo technical issues
  • Experience documenting and communicating complex Creo technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Expert proficiency in Windchill PLM for product data management
  • Experience managing CAD data structures, workflows, and release processes within Windchill
  • Familiarity with Windchill enterprise configuration and administration
  • Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and CAD standards
  • Proven ability to deliver Product Definitions through PLM systems
  • Experience with MSSL (Missile Systems) programs
  • Familiarity with MS365 suite (OneNote, Teams, Project, Visio)
  • Track record of implementing process improvements and new CAD methodologies
  • Demonstrated technical and staff leadership capabilities
  • Experience representing technical interests on governance boards
  • Excellent communication skills across departments and disciplines
  • Strong people leadership skills with focus on staff development
  • Experience managing budgets and resource allocation
  • Knowledge of production support requirements (Operations, Tooling, Quality)

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in the State of California is $110,500 - $205,000  This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
