Job Description:

We are seeking a Lead, Quality Engineer to join our Space Propulsion and Power Systems (SP&PS) Quality & Mission Assurance leadership team. This individual will drive key quality initiatives across multiple sites, collaborating with functional leadership and program management, and working closely with Sr. Manager and Director-level leadership.  Additionally, the individual will perform a number of Quality Process Engineering (QPE) responsibilities in support of one or more Product Assurance / Product Inspection work centers.

The QPE represent quality assurance in corrective action activities; and participate in audits or product evaluations to determine the effectiveness of the quality assurance program. These positions collaborate with engineering laboratory and production functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

The ideal candidate will have experience with any of the following processes: Welding, Machining, Plating, Brazing, NDT, Additive Manufacturing, High Complexity Assembly, Thermal Processing, Precision Measurement or other hands on manufacturing processes.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Champion, lead, and support the execution of flow-down strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership from all AR sites and program management to drive quality initiatives across the segment.
  •  Lead the SP&PS sector Non-conformance Reduction Council to address major defect drivers and aging items.
  • Proactively analyzes manufacturing data to identify opportunities and implement process efficiency and quality improvements
  •  Independently manages quality projects, including coordination with cross functional team members, to ensure timely project completion.
  • Lead the Zero Defect Plan initiative across the segment, ensuring robust project charters, accurate capture of cost savings, and execution to schedule.
  • Support the sector Corrective Action Board to oversee rigorous root cause analysis, application of lean/six sigma methods, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provide leadership and participate in cause and corrective action activities, failure investigations, metrics creation, and quality improvement projects.
  • Help establish annual sector goals, monitor adherence to plans and schedules, mitigate risks, and achieve set milestones
  • Report to senior leadership on business performance, including action plans to improve business execution and the status of strategic initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills: 

·         Technical Skills:

o    Familiarity with AS9100, ISO9001, or other quality management systems.

o    Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.

o    Experienced in investigating technical issues and nonconformance’s to determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions

o    Familiarity with 8D analysis or similar tools

 

·         Communication Skills:

o    Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skill.

·         Self-Starter:

o    Ability to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact with minimal supervision.

o  Deal with multiple tasks and deadlines set by management

o  Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·         Advanced business knowledge, general management, and leadership capabilities.

·         Proven experience in developing and implementing quality assurance programs and systems.

·         Relevant experience supporting the production of high-complexity aerospace products.

·         Experience interfacing with US government agencies and/or aerospace prime customers.

·         CQE and/or CSSBB certification.

·         APQP and/or Zero Defect Planning experience.

·         Proficient in MS Office, business analytics software such as Qlik and PowerBI, and tools like Microsoft Visio and Minitab.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in the state of California and Washington is $114,000 - $212,000.This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
