Job Description: 

 

Aerojet Rocketdyne, a segment of L3Harris, is seeking Tool Design Engineers to join our state-of-the-art facilities at our Camden, AR location, the forefront of innovation, producing and developing a variety of energetic assemblies essential for rocket propulsion. The Tool Design Engineer will develop manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes. Actively participates with engineering project teams in order to coordinate the release of new products.  Design manufacturing tooling for the production of solid fuel rocket motors and warheads. Develop jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated equipment to cast and assemble the final product. Design major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes CAD equipment to develop basic data and make preliminary layouts, sketches and notes necessary to present design proposals. Investigates and makes decisions regarding pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements and cost.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Experienced professional with proficient knowledge of job area and practical knowledge of project management.
  • May manage projects or processes with general supervision.
  • Communicates with contacts inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures.
  • Recommends enhancements to systems and processes.
  • Works to achieve operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.
  • Design mechanical equipment using PTC Creo and Windchill.
  • Interface with production, program management and safety to develop requirements and tooling needs.
  • Define existing equipment problems, design repairs and modifications.
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret security clearance.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior design engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior design engineering experience experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior design engineering experience. 
  • 3 years of experience in the design of tooling to support manufacturing. 
  • 2 years of experience using a solid modeling program such as Unigraphics NX, Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD Inventor, Catia, CREO or Solid Works.

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working in the defense industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of air controls.
