Job Description:

L3Harris Technologies S&C5S is an agile defense technology innovator, delivering end-to-end solutions for the US Navy, Space Force, Coast Guard, and NSA. With capabilities in ship communications, end-cryptographic devices, and manufacturing that meet customers’ mission-critical needs. 

Manages all Mechanical Design activities involving S&C5S Camden, NJ and Herndon, VA product lines. Provide technical leadership and directs the design, documentation, and prototyping of new products to ensure L3Harris’s technical superiority in the market place. Estimate labor, capacity and other resources as required to operate and adherence to budget and schedule commitments. Supports and contributes in the preparation of technical proposals towards capturing new business. Maintains and plans updates for the Computer Aided Design tools/skills in support of design and documentation functions.

 

In this role a qualified candidate will lead the company’s mechanical engineering team with responsibilities for the mechanical design of Columbia and Virginia submarine communications systems, next gen HF comms for the US Navy, and several NSA encryption devices.  They will also support technical challenges on existing designs for sustainment efforts and will provide input and recommendations for Internal Research And Development (IRAD) projects and support business growth by researching and responding to customer solicitations. 

 

Specific Duties:

  • Manage and direct the day to day activities of the Mechanical Design Group and make individual work assignments.
  • Monitor individual performance and prepare formal Performance Appraisal Reports.
  • Lead the team tasked with providing detailed design models and drawings of all new development using Creo/Windchill. Manage heritage designs in their native CAD tools as necessary.
  • Manage the design and prototype of new components to rapidly test changes and improvements.
  • Work closely with Operations to transition new designs to production / manufacturing using established company processes.
  • Experience in designing complex rack and cable assemblies for shipboard applications.
  • Knowledge of various fabrication techniques (including machining, sheet metal forming, welding, and brazing) and finishing techniques (including heat treating, plating, and painting).
  • Assist in the development of technical feasibility studies to support growth and customer opportunities.
  • Assist QC Dept to verify compliance of incoming purchased parts with required specs.
  • Manage the engineering input to outside machine shops that will be fabricating components.
  • Manage the documentation control system for all products and components
  • Maintain the CAD data management system as the site admin.
  • Assist in creating requirements for potential CAD system migrations.

Basic Qualifications:

·   

·       Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, tactics, and employees within a team.   

·       Extensive Cre/Windchill PDM Experience. Design of rack and cable systems for shipboard environments. 

·              Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience,

·       Or, Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience,

·       Or, In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

·              Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret security clearance

·              Able to provide technical leadership to a mechanical project team as required.

·              Experience in mechanical engineering design and development of military products.

·              Experience with ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, and GD&T standards. 

   Preferred Additional Skills: 

·       Excellent written and verbal communications skills, especially personnel soft skills

·       Practical experience with computer aided design and analysis software.

·Department work planning, control, implementation and execution skills are a must.

·Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Project and Power Point, electronic communications.

·Rack and cable design experience for US Navy and USCG shipboard environments.

·Knowledge of Navy/Military specifications and standards pertaining to hardware, materials and testing processes

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $119,500 - $205,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
