Job Description:
The propellant manufacturing engineer provides engineering support for the manufacture of propellant mixing and casting of rocket motors. Implement process improvements and track operations and performance parameters to ensure high quality, on time delivery. In addition, provide process information and requirements for major capital expansion projects. Work consists of making significant improvement or enhancements to systems, processes and products. Opportunities for problem solving and innovation are complex or undefined and may require comprehensive information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem. Problems typically involve consideration of multiple issues, job areas or specialties. Problems are generally solved through creative solutions, drawing from prior experience and in-depth analysis and can span a wide range of difficult and unique issues across the function and/or business area. Work is guided by individual goals and objectives with minimal oversight or direction.
Essential Functions:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) with comprehensive knowledge of job area and in-depth knowledge of project management.
- Manages large, complex project initiatives of substantial importance with minimal oversight or direction.
- Communicates within and outside of the organization to explain and influence changes to processes, practices, and approaches.
- Makes significant improvements to systems and processes.
- Provides input into new products/processes and implements operational plans that have measurable impact on business or functional results. Works to achieve operational targets with direct impact on the departmental results.
- Investigates and determines root causes of problems, develops and implements corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees across the company within area of expertise.
- Minimal travel required.
- Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant engineer experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related engineer experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related engineer experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Computer skills sufficient to generate reports and analyze data using MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Minitab, and JMP.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Statistical Analysis experience.
- Understands rocket propulsion component(s) and theory of operation.
- Experience working with Energetics and DOD contracts.
- Capital Project Management.
