Job Description:

The Operations Associate position is a bargaining represented position and is responsible for all aspects of electronic assembly and repair of printed circuit boards, electronic cabinets, cable harnesses, and/or electro-mechanical assemblies. Typical duties may include hand soldering, mechanical assembly, inspection, cable assembly, electronic console assembly, electronic system assembly, point-to-point wiring. Specifically, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Surface mount technology (SMT) Electronics Assembly Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, inspecting, and testing SMT electronic components. 

Essential Functions:

  • Assemble SMT electronic components and PCBAs (Printed Circuit Board Assemblies) according to engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Operate and maintain SMT assembly equipment, including pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and solder paste printers.
  • Perform soldering, desoldering, and rework of SMT components using precision tools and techniques.
  • Conduct quality inspections on completed SMT assemblies and sub-assemblies to ensure compliance with company standards and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair defective SMT products or components as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials required for SMT assembly tasks.
  • Record and report production data into SAP.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve SMT assembly processes.
  • Follow all safety and quality control procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering in developing SMT assembly procedures and work instructions for new product introduction.
  • Utilize automated SMT assembly and testing equipment to enhance production efficiency and accuracy.
  • Monitor SMT assembly and testing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance product quality and reduce production costs.
  • Document and report any discrepancies or deviations from SMT assembly specifications promptly.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proven experience in SMT electronics assembly, soldering, and testing.
  • Able to obtain IPC-610, IPC620 and J Standard 001 certifications on first try and/or no more than 2 times.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to work with precision.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic components and their functions.
  • Ability to use hand tools, soldering irons, and SMT-specific equipment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to solder paste, flux, and solder fumes.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot SMT issues.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • IPC J-STD-001 certification or similar industry-standard soldering certifications.
  • Experience with SMT equipment such as pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and solder paste printers.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in high tech electronics environment
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in manufacturing  
  • Experience with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection practices.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary for this role is $31.78. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
