Job Description:
L3 Harris is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to apply Lean and continuous improvement methods within manufacturing operations. This role is available to work out of our office in Camden, Arkansas. The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for identifying, leading, and implementing process improvement initiatives. This role leverages Lean, Six Sigma, and other best practices to drive operational efficiencies, reduce waste, and enhance product quality. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to analyze production workflows, collect and interpret data, and champion a culture of continuous improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and support Lean and Six Sigma process improvement projects from conception through completion.
- Analyze production processes, workflow, and performance data to identify opportunities for process optimization.
- Facilitate root cause analysis and develop corrective actions to address manufacturing issues.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
- Train and mentor employees on continuous improvement tools, methodologies, and mindset.
- Collaborate with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to drive improvements.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess impact of improvement initiatives.
- Communicate project status, outcomes, and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
- Lead the execution of action plans, utilizing project management skills to ensure timely completion, effective resource allocation, and alignment with objectives. Track progress, provide clear updates to stakeholders, and adjust plans as necessary to achieve desired results.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing or process improvement role.
- Proven knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies, or able to work towards obtaining a Lean Certification.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Green Belt or Black Belt Certification in Lean or Six Sigma.
- Experience with data analysis software (such as Minitab, PowerBi, etc.).
- Working knowledge of ERP/MES systems.
- Experience in automotive, aerospace, or electronics manufacturing environments.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other quality management systems.
