L3Harris is seeking a Chief Software Engineer (CSWE) to lead the software architecture, development, integration, and sustainment of advanced systems supporting the Resilient Missile Warning & Tracking (RMWT) mission. The CSWE will be responsible for driving innovation and technical excellence across software efforts that enable resilient, multi-domain, and mission-critical operations in missile warning, tracking, and space-based sensing.

The ideal candidate has deep experience across the full software lifecycle and a strong background in real-time data fusion, ground mission processing, AI/ML-based detection algorithms, and resilient distributed system architectures. This position is onsite in Denver, CO.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Serve as the technical authority and principal software architect for the RMWT program, setting the direction for software design, integration, testing, and delivery.
  • Lead a cross-functional software engineering team developing mission-critical command, control, and processing applications.
  • Partner closely with Systems Engineering, Hardware, and Integration teams to deliver end-to-end resilient ground system capabilities.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering staff, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Translate mission needs and customer requirements into scalable, maintainable, and testable software architectures.
  • Define and enforce DevSecOps best practices, including containerized deployments, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
  • Engage directly with senior leadership, customers, and external stakeholders to communicate program status, risk posture, and architectural vision.
  • Contribute to capture activities, technical whitepapers, and technology roadmaps that align with L3Harris’ Space and Airborne Systems strategic vision.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required, including occasional international travel.
  • Flexibility to report to alternate work location(s) (Colorado Springs area) should business conditions indicate.
  • Ability to obtain Security+ certification in less than 60 days.

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
  • Active U.S. DoD TS/SCI Security clearance.
  • Experience developing software in C/C++, Java, or Python, including real-time or mission-processing systems.
  • DevSecOps pipelines, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift), and automated build/test infrastructure.
  • Experience leading technical projects and teams of software engineers to complete complex programs.
  • Experience with Agile software development and system-level integration across multi-domain architectures.  

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

 

  • Active Security+ certification.   
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or on-prem OpenStack).   
  • Experience with AI/ML-based tracking, sensor fusion, or predictive analytics for missile warning or space domain awareness missions.   
  • Familiarity with space-based infrared (SBIR), OPIR, or missile defense systems.   
  • Background in distributed ground mission systems or resilient communications networks.  
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), technical baseline management, and cross-contract integration.   
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.

 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $161,500 - $300,500. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $140,500 - $261,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
