Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Chief Engineer to support the Chief Engineer in leading our Resilient Missile Warning and Missile Tracking (RMMWT) Ground Management and Integration (GMI) engineering team. The Deputy Chief Systems Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer in overseeing all engineering activities, ensuring the successful execution of projects, and driving innovation within the organization. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
Essential Functions:
- System Architecture and Design: Define the overall system architecture, including hardware, software, and network components with a systems model (MBSE) and contribute to the program digital thread.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams utilizing an agile methodology like Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and tools like the Atlassian Suite.
- Requirements Management: Ensure that system requirements are clearly defined, documented, and flowed down to development teams, and verified and validated throughout the development lifecycle using tools like Jama or Cameo.
- Integration and Testing: Oversee the integration of different system components and ensuring proper testing and validation. Rapidly solve problems, perform test results analysis, and prepare comprehensive test reports which verify and validate system performance.
- Risk and Opportunity Management: Identify and mitigate potential technical risks and opportunities that would impact program execution using tools like Cameo.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with various stakeholders, including customers, developers, , engineering teams leaders, and subcontractor technical management to identify needs and develop solutions which meet requirements.
- Cost and Schedule Management: Manage the technical baseline of the project to ensure it stays within budget and schedule and report results to Chief Engineer.
- Travel: May require up to 15% travel
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Must have an active TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance
- Minimum of 9 years experience in systems engineering roles
- Minimum of 9 years experience in a Chief Engineering role in software integration and test projects
- Technical background in hardware, software, full lifecycle development and deployment of space operations centers
- 7+ years experience in RF engineering, signal processing, and antenna design
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Data Analytics and Machine Learning: Ability to apply data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) techniques to optimize satellite operations and data processing.
- Ground Entry Point (GEP): Previous experience with satellite GEP architecture and operations
- Research and Development: Strong capability in leading R&D projects, innovating new technologies, and advancing existing systems that ultimately lead to operational delivery.
- Space Force or Intelligence Space Operations experience
- Previous exposure to capture and develop new business lines
- Ability to lead and motivate teams, communicate technical information effectively, and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges.
- Experience partnering with stakeholders and integrated product team leaders to identify needs and develop solutions which provide customer value.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $150,000.00 - $278,000.00 This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
