Job Description:
The Manager, Systems Engineering leads a team of systems engineers supporting the development and delivery of airborne telemetry, radio frequency (RF), secure communications, and embedded flight safety systems at L3Harris TRF Bristol. This role is responsible for leading people, workforce planning, and disciplined execution of systems engineering activities to ensure products meet technical, schedule, cost, quality, cybersecurity, and customer requirements. The position works across engineering and program functions to strengthen requirements management, system integration, verification and validation, and technical review readiness. The successful candidate will join a collaborative engineering organization focused on delivering high-reliability solutions for United States and allied aerospace and defense platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Lead, develop, and manage a systems engineering team, including staffing, workload planning, performance management, coaching, and employee development.
- Direct systems engineering activities across requirements development, decomposition, allocation, traceability, interface definition, and technical baseline management.
- Oversee execution of system integration, verification, validation, qualification planning, risk management, and lifecycle engineering activities from development through delivery.
- Lead or support formal technical reviews, including System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, and related engineering reviews.
- Promote disciplined engineering execution through standard work, configuration management, documentation quality, and compliance with established engineering processes.
- Partner within Engineering, as well as Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to support integrated program execution.
- Support workforce forecasting, resource planning, staffing updates, and Basis of Estimate (BOE) inputs across multiple programs and priorities.
- Use metrics, status reporting, and data analysis to communicate technical progress, staffing needs, execution risks, and process performance to leadership and stakeholders.
- Support adoption of digital engineering practices, including model-based systems engineering (MBSE), requirements tools, and improved engineering data visibility.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Secret security clearance is required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior related experience; or a graduate degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience; or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in an engineering leadership role, such as engineering manager, team lead, functional lead, or integrated product team lead.
- Minimum 5 years of experience performing systems engineering activities for aerospace, defense, radio frequency (RF), telemetry, secure communications, embedded systems, or other hardware-based technical products.
- Minimum 4 years of experience with requirements development, requirements allocation, traceability, interface definition, configuration control, and verification and validation planning.
- Minimum 4 years of experience leading or supporting formal engineering reviews such as System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, or Test Readiness Review.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret security clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey information effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Active US Secret or Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital thread methods, and digital engineering tools.
- Experience with requirements and lifecycle management tools such as Jama, Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS), or product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
- Experience supporting qualification, environmental testing, and performance validation for airborne or ruggedized hardware.
- Experience supporting proposal efforts, basis of estimate development, technical planning, or customer review preparation.
- Familiarity with communications security hardware, information assurance systems, or NSA Type 1 cryptographic systems.
- INCOSE Associate Systems Engineering Professional, INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional, or Project Management Professional certification.
