Job Description:
Execute day-to-day operational needs of a model/machine shop for fabrication of machined parts, tools, and fixtures using hand operated and/or CNC milling machine, lathe, and other typical machine shop equipment. Support Engineering department in the development of new products, tools, and fixtures.
Essential Functions:
- Perform conventional and CNC machining, milling, lathe turning, cutting, grinding, and related tasks to fabricate mechanical parts per engineering designs.
- Modify many different modifications of COTS components/connectors/materials using machine shop tools/dies, etc.… to .001” precision
- Provide technical input and engage in technical interchange with mechanical engineers on the mechanical design, prototyping, development and assembly of products.
- Work from Blueprints, sketches, or Computer Aided Design (CAD) files.
- Craft precision tools that are used to cut, shape, and form metal and other materials.
- Demonstrates superior quality, accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, while maintaining a commitment to a high standard of safety; comply with all safety laws as well as company safety policies and procedures.
- Interfacing with and work effectively with multiple cross functional groups including but not limited to design engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, procurement, and manufacturing personnel.
- Provides basic support functions on behalf of facilities department on an as needed basis
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in setup and operation of CNC and hand milling machines, lathes, and other shop tools.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Inspection of parts using various measuring equipment including Micrometers, Calipers and using a CMM Coordinate Measuring Machine.
- Ability to read, fully understand and interpret mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings designed to ASME 14.5M-1994 standard for complex, tight tolerance mechanical parts and assemblies
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensions and tolerances.
- Self-starter, high energy, results-oriented and ability to multi-task.
- Excellent cross-functional teamwork, coordination and communication skills, both verbal and written.
