L3Harris in Eight Mile Plains is The Centre of Excellence for Electronic Warfare and is home to world-leading design, manufacture and integration expertise and the sustainment of high-reliability electronic warfare components. Our highly skilled workforce design and develop Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities such as the next-generation space, airborne and cyber capabilities for the Australian warfighter.
The Project Engineer will play a key role in successfully delivering engineering projects on time, within budget, and to defined scope and quality standards. In this role, you will be assigned to a portfolio of minor projects, taking ownership of their engineering delivery while providing guidance and mentorship to the assigned engineering team. You will ensure effective coordination, technical excellence, and the overall success of each project within the program.
What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Manage engineering workstreams using established project governance frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
- Oversee the timely delivery of engineering requirements in line with contract obligations and agreed Statements of Work.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with project documentation, governance standards, and company policies.
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor engineering activities, addressing risks, issues, and corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain high-quality engineering deliverables across all assigned projects.
- Support technical engagement and communication with customers.
- Coordinate cost, schedule, and technical performance in line with program and customer requirements.
- Track project progress, manage budgets and schedules, and provide regular status reporting.
- Identify and resolve engineering challenges to meet productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.
- Manage project risks, including identification, mitigation, and resolution.
- Estimate and manage resource and material requirements.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including resource managers, supervisors, and supply chain teams, to ensure timely approvals and availability of materials and subcontractors.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, contributing to a broad range of engineering and project activities.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you’ll need the following experience and skills;
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 4 years’ relevant industry experience, or a postgraduate qualification with at least 2 years’ related experience.
- Demonstrated experience applying Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
- Strong understanding of project engineering best practices and program execution, with experience managing multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience delivering hardware and software integration programs.
- Proven track record managing projects with budgets up to $30M.
- Knowledge of technical supplier management, as well as risk and opportunity management practices.
- Experience leading Agile software development programs, including the use of collaboration tools such as Confluence.
