Job Description:
The Sr. Specialist, Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that delivered products and/or services conform to contractual and the Company’s requirements. The SQE will work closely with their assigned suppliers on activities such as Early Supplier Engagements, First Article Inspections, Root Cause / Corrective Action activities, and audits. The SQE will also work with the assigned Contract Source Inspector to ensure that product releases are timely and meet the expectations of the internal customers. Up to 80% travel is required.
Successful candidates will have the following:
- Strong knowledge of machining supplier processes and quality risks associated with machined hardware
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase order requirements
- Knowledge of GD&T and dimensional inspection techniques
- Ability to review and assess supplier manufacturing plans, inspection plans, and control plans
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data from multiple sources and develop action plans
- Experience with nonconformance management, corrective action requests, and supplier performance improvement
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a close-knit team environment
- Ability to influence suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive timely and effective resolution of issues
- Proficiency in preparing reports, metrics, and supplier performance summaries
- Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple supplier priorities
Essential Functions:
- Visit suppliers to review product & process issues. Interface with internal and external customers; i.e., engineering, manufacturing, supplier, procurement to ensure requirements are met. Analyze supplier processes and planning to verify compliance with purchase orders, engineering drawings, processes, specifications, etc. Review and approval of supplier FAIs IAW AS9102.
- Visit suppliers and perform investigation and root cause analysis to drive improvements into their processes. Be accountable for assigned suppliers' performance and ensure suppliers are performing with a 100% quality rating.
- Be an active contributor in Early Supplier Engagements such as Post Award Reviews (PAR), Supplier Manufacturing Readiness Reviews, and Control Plan activity.
- Work with suppliers to resolve issues with purchase order inspection packages. Investigate and report supplier quality history as requested by quality engineering or Quality & Mission Assurance (Q&MA) management.
- Create reporting documents to status Supplier's Performance, Non-Conformance History, impact to the Company's CoPQ, and other metrics as assigned.
- Participates in managing the supplier ratings/scorecard system and overseeing periodic performance review meetings.
- Perform periodic source inspections at assigned suppliers.
- Up to 80% travel.
- Ability to obtain a US LEVEL Secret security clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant quality experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related quality experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related quality experience.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license. Employees who drive on company business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid driver’s license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the company.
- Ability to travel onsite to regional suppliers up to 80% of the time.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Aerospace Quality Management System Standard
- Working knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements
- Experience in manufacturing and/or inspection environments
- Strong problem-solving, investigation, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) experience
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) strongly preferred
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience with supplier surveillance, supplier development, and source inspection
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $96,000 - $178,000. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $84,000 - $156,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
