Job Description:
The Quality Sr. Specialist, Source Inspector/Analyst, within the L3Harris Supplier Quality Assurance organization, is responsible for performing Supplier End Item Data Package (EIDP) reviews and executing physical in‑process and final inspections of complex aerospace hardware, including First Article Inspection (FAI) and production. All work must be performed in accordance with contractual requirements, engineering drawings, and applicable specifications. This role also supports the maintenance of the Approved Supplier List (ASL) and contributes to line‑rejection and turn‑back reduction initiatives through proactive mitigation activities.
Essential Functions:
• Perform Supplier End Item Data Package (EIDP) reviews in accordance with contractual requirements and execute accept/reject decisions for final electronic acceptance under stamp‑warranty authority.
• Conduct detailed in‑process and final inspections on machined parts, composites, and complex aerospace assemblies to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
• Support supplier‑assigned Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs) with First Article Inspection (FAI) activities and perform FAIs with approval authority when requested.
• Apply advanced GD&T knowledge to validate product conformity and ensure proper inspection coverage.
• Utilize a wide range of precision inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, visual aids, and other measurement instruments.
• Interpret and analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate and comprehensive inspection execution.
• Collaborate with SQEs and Quality Managers to resolve nonconformances, drive corrective actions, support continuous improvement, and reduce line‑rejections and turn‑backs.
• Support supplier quality activities, including in‑state domestic travel (approximately 90%) and out‑of‑state domestic travel (approximately 10%) for on‑site supplier inspections, sometimes requiring short‑notice deployment or training.
• Ensure compliance with all internal procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry and regulatory standards.
• Contribute to the maintenance of the Approved Supplier List (ASL) and assist in supplier performance‑improvement efforts.
• Demonstrate the ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Participate in initiatives aimed at reducing quality escapes, improving supplier process capability, and ensuring consistent product acceptance in alignment with program objectives.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
• 5+ years of experience with GD&T principles and applications; complex assemblies, machined components, and composite structures; and inspection methods, processes, and documentation practices.
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience with inspection tools, including hand tools, precision measurement instruments, and visual inspection aids.
• Ability and willingness to travel within the United States up to 100%, sometimes on short notice, to support supplier inspections and related activities.
Preferred Additional Skills:
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with suppliers, engineers, and management.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Experience reviewing NDT certifications (e.g., FPI, Radiography, etc.).
• Knowledge of GD&T principles and applications.
• Prior aerospace industry experience in supplier quality, source inspection, or similar functions.
• Familiarity with nonconformance documentation, corrective‑action processes, and supplier‑quality systems.
• Experience performing independent product acceptance under stamp‑warranty authority.
• Working knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, and AS9120.
• ASQ (CQI) certification or Six Sigma preferred.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $USA3 84,000.00 -$USA3 156,000.00. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $USA2 73,000.00 - $USA2 135,000.00.
