Job Description:
As Systems Engineering Senior Manager, you will be responsible for staffing, resource allocation in the staffing tool, performance assessment, systems engineering process enforcement, systems engineering program performance, overhead funding management, continuous improvement initiatives and staff career development. You will also be responsible for briefing senior leadership on the status of staffing, program technical performance measures, cost of poor quality, and continuous improvement savings. You will be responsible for an organization of up to 100 employees and up to 10 direct reports, spanning multiple locations across the United States.
The Agile Development Group (ADG) specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for ensuring programs are adhering to established processes embracing agile product systems and software development and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) processes to enhance development speed and quality; the development process includes the execution of rapid learning cycles in requirements development, design, build, integration & test and verification & validation in a design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturability environment
- Develop, track and present technical performance metrics
- Develop, coach, and motivate systems engineers to peak performance
- Work with employees to set annual goals and perform periodic employee performance evaluations
- Manage systems engineering resources to meet program needs through allocation of available personnel or hiring new personnel
- Help perform risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects
- Participate in the readiness assessment of system integration and engineering test efforts
- Responsible for improving upon existing Systems Engineering processes
- Provide guidance on trade studies on a variety of systems and components
- Provide expertise to Root Cause Corrective Action activities
- Participate in proposal activities by approving both cost and technical estimates
- Manage Systems Engineering staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, planning and training employees. Coach, counseling, monitor, and appraise staff performance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Up to 10% travel may be required
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Active DoD clearance with current 5 year update
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- System level design experience in which the applicant has been involved in the design and integration of complex hardware/software systems, the definition of multiple interfaces and been involved in the trades of multiple solution options
- Hands on experience being involved in system integration, engineering testing, and system performance characterization
- Experience estimating cost and determining the technical approach for proposals
- Systems Engineering functional management experience
- Experience using Microsoft Office products
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with and an understanding of aerospace systems, especially in the development of integrated hardware/software products
- Experience leading a team to complete assigned program tasking
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
- Experience in unmanned aircraft or guided weapon systems
- Experience in radar sensor system design and development
- Experience with proposal development including generating basis of estimates
- Experience in development of use cases developed from customer objectives and concepts of operations
- Experience in requirements development and decomposition
- Experience with system architecture and interface documentation
- Experience with integration and test planning
- Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
