Job Description: 
L3Harris is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer to support the Unmanned Systems business in Ashburn, VA. This role is responsible for solving manufacturing problems with innovative solutions and driving continuous improvement in our manufacturing processes. In this role, you will be a key part of the Integrated Product Team to develop and execute manufacturing plans. You will also be collaborating with other engineering disciplines, program management, quality assurance, and manufacturing. 

In this role, you will be a part of the Agile Development Group, which is a division that specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience.

Essential Functions: 
•    Investigate and implement alternate/new manufacturing processes and technologies for emerging programs.
•    Provide key technical input on all product designs for manufacturing ease and cost considerations. This includes analyzing different design approaches and manufacturing methods. 
•    Examine early assembly prototyping/testing to provide feedback in the design process. 
•    Identify and justify capital equipment needs for capacity and capability expansion.
•    Frequently responsible for managing large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross-functional teams.
•    Provide technical mentorship for teams in areas of expertise.
•    Contribute to CAM and IPT activities.
•    Initiate and review manufacturing workflow and processes/procedures such as:
o    Work/assembly instructions
o    Rework and modification instructions
o    Travelers/routers
o    Special process instructions
o    Standard repair instructions
•    Review and approve drawings for the Manufacturing Department (i.e. sign off authority). 
•    Communicate information between the design and manufacturing teams and ensure that design feedback from manufacturing is relayed to engineering. 
•    Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the organization such as 5S, Tool Control, etc.
•    Up to 5% of travel may be required.
•    Other duties as required.

Qualifications: 
•    Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
•    Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.


Preferred Additional Skills:
•    Masters degree in relevant engineering field or related field and/or equivalent experience desired    .
•    Experience and knowledge of manufacturing methods, specifically in composites, metals, and electronics.
•    Experience leading small teams.
•    Experience with technical writing, specifically work instructions and process documentation.
•    Experience in aviation or military systems manufacturing.
•    Experience with creating and presenting performance metrics.
•    Experience with Capital Equipment justification and BOEs.
•    Experience using Microsoft Office products.
•    Excellent people skills to include collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
•    Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
•    Experience in a 3D CAD software. Experience in Creo is preferred.
•    Experience with Power BI or data analytics.
•    Experience/certification in lean practices; 5S, six sigma, etc.
