Job Description:

As the Lead Systems Engineer you will be responsible for developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced unmanned air systems (UAS / UAV). As a key unmanned systems subject matter expert, you will define hardware and software requirements, design and architect unmanned vehicles, and manage verification and validation of technical products and systems.  You will also be responsible for conducting component trade studies, performing system integration, and characterizing system performance.

 

The Agile Development Group (ADG) specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies.


Essential Functions: 

As the unmanned systems subject matter expert, lead a team to identify and complete assigned program tasking; identify and remove team’s impediments; and manage up.

  • Lead the execution of rapid cycles in requirements development; design, build, integration, and test; and verification & validation in a design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturability environment, including lab, chamber, ground, and flight test.
    • Responsible for requirements definition, flow-down, and traceability for complex electronic systems.
    • Responsible for system design synthesis of complex electronic systems across multi-disciplined (i.e., EE, SwE, ME, SE, CM, QA, PM) engineering teams.
    • Responsible for adoption of and adaptation of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices and processes to enhance product development speed and quality.
    • Responsible for system integration and test efforts.
    • Guiding, coaching, and mentoring cross-functional team members.
  • Lead, develop, track, and present technical performance metrics.
    • Analyze data from design verification test efforts.
    • Develop and run simulations and other analysis tools to predict system performance in various environments.
  • Lead risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for complex systems.
  • Author CDRLs.
  • Track artifacts in Agile PLM, Sunflower, Windchill.
  • Perform trade studies on a variety of systems and components.
  • Develop or champion new systems, concepts, or technologies.
  • Responsible for communicating within and outside the organization.
  • Responsible for improving existing Systems Engineering processes.
  • Present results during internal and external program meetings.
  • Participate in proposal activities, both cost and technical.
  • Obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required.
  • Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • 10% travel may be required.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • Unmanned systems subject matter expert.
  • Complex systems engineering experience in which the applicant has been deeply involved in the design and integration of complex hardware/software systems, the definition of multiple interfaces, and been involved in the trades of multiple solution options.
  • Hands-on experience being involved in system integration, engineering testing, and system performance characterization.


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with and an understanding of aerospace systems, especially in the development of integrated hardware/software products.
  • Experience integrating typical payloads like sensors or communications into air vehicles.
  • Experience in guided weapon systems.
  • Experience leading a team to complete assigned program tasking.
  • Experience in development of use cases developed from customer objectives and concepts of operations.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with Matlab, LabView, Python, or C/C++/C#.
  • Experience in Control Account Management as part of an Earned Value Management System.
  • Experience with proposal development including generating basis of estimates.
  • Excellent people skills with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.
