Job Description:
In a fast moving and increasingly complex world, L3Harris is anticipating and rapidly responding to challenges with agile technology – creating a safer and more secure future. L3Harris is seeking a dynamic Mechanical Engineer who will design and manufacture electronic data acquisition systems for use in Anti-Submarine Warfare, ship self-defense, acoustic ranges and geophysical exploration products. They utilize CAD software to create blueprints, perform simulations to ensure safety and efficiency, and oversee production to meet project specifications.
Essential Functions:
- Implement assigned projects and project tasks to provide mechanical engineering solutions including: mechanical design, parts selection, CAD and modeling, stress analysis, thermal analysis, environmental impacts, packaging and assembly and test equipment design for assigned project.
- Extensive experience with CAD and FEA software to perform mechanical design and analysis is required.
- Ensure that assigned project tasks meet technical and schedule requirements. Identify problems and recommend work around plans and alternatives.
- Provide technical status, forecast technical needs and recommend changes as necessary to meet objectives.
- Prepare tradeoff models and candidates for evaluation.
- Conduct thorough design analyses including interface design, models, equipment prototypes and R&D test tools.
- Provide system test and evaluation support including input to test plans and procedures.
- Prepare engineering drawings and documents.
- Direct and coordinate activities for product assembly / fabrication, equipment operation and/or installation and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. Responsible for following sound safety practices as documented in the company’s quality system manual.
- Implement check and balance procedures to monitor, review and evaluate design activities performed to assure conformance with customer requirements, company standards and sound engineering practices.
- Select materials necessary to support the design.
- Develop manufacturing and producibility analyses.
- Ensure that the design is fully compliant with customer specifications.
- Perform failure analyses and document results.
- Prepare design review material in support of PDR, CDR, FDR and technical audits for assigned designs.
- Develop, issue, and implement internal technical and engineering practices and procedures.
- Promote cordial relationships and foster and maintain a favorable business profile with customers, suppliers, co-workers, industry and professional associations, government agencies and the local community.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on mechanical design experience, including CAD modeling, design analysis, and engineering drawing preparation.
- Proficiency in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor or other comparable platforms such as SolidWorks or CATIA) with demonstrated ability to produce engineering drawings, assembly models, and design documentation.
- Experience supporting fabrication, assembly, and/or production environments, including coordinating product build activities, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring designs meet customer and manufacturing specifications.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active Secret security clearance.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and ANSYS strongly preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Project Management experience.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules, and priorities.
- Detail-oriented and high level of organization skills.
- Highly motivated and eager to learn and acquire new skills.
