Job Description:
We are seeking an innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our team dedicated to designing and developing high performance mechanical systems to address suspension and release systems on state of the art airborne platforms. In this role, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to design, prototype, and produce the next generation solutions to meet next generation platform requirements. Your expertise will help transform requirements into innovative and reliable design solutions that exceed customer expectations.
Tactical Airborne Systems (TAS) specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced suspension and release systems, airborne telemetry solutions, antenna apertures, and displays that support military and commercial aircraft, missiles and munitions.
Essential Functions:
- Review and interpret the mechanical environmental conditions provided in the statement of work and the technical performance specification as it applies to the equipment being developed under the program
- Responsible for achieving a compliant design which will meet all program environmental requirements and demonstrated by successfully passing qualification testing
- Conducting hand calculations based on strength of materials and structural mechanics theory
- Finite element analysis (FEA), using Ansys, will be employed when conducting structural dynamic analysis of complex geometry individual parts and/or multi-body assemblies
- Analyze structural and thermal loads on electronic assemblies consisting of Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs). Margins will be written on the structures and on the junction temperatures of electronic components
- Present data in design review settings (e.g. PDR, CDR), both internal and external
- Provide strong contributions to the overall product design dialogue from inception to production
- Provide hands-on support during development, integration and test activities
- This role requires your presence on-site in Amityville, New York
- Up to 10% travel may be required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
- Prior or current experience conducting hand calculations based on strength of materials and structural mechanics theory
- At least 4 years experience with Finite Element Analysis (static, random vibration, shock, thermal, transient load conditions) utilizing associated tools, preferably:
- Ansys Mechanical
- LS-Dyna or ADAMs
- Icepak
Preferred Additional Skills:
- CAD design skills in a mechanical design software such as Creo, NX, Catia, SolidWorks, or SolidEdge
- Experience managing large projects or processes that are both inside and outside of immediate job area
- Strong mechanical analysis and verification skills including experience with integration and qualification test support
- Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing methods including machining, composite lamination, sheet metal fabrication, and/or 3D printing
- Experience providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $100,000.00 - $185,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
