Job Description:  

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to oversee all manufacturing engineers across MRO, production, and SMT operations while driving process improvements, new program implementations, and equipment integration throughout the facility. This role will be responsible for guiding the team in developing work instructions, optimizing manufacturing processes, and implementing efficiency and quality improvements that directly impact our ability to deliver mission-critical systems. This role will make a meaningful difference for the warfighter by collaborating with production, quality, and design engineering teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges and support both new product development and sustainment programs.

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide leadership, direction, and performance management for the manufacturing engineering team supporting MRO, production, and SMT operations across the facility
  • Champion continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) to identify and eliminate waste, reduce cycle times, and enhance operational efficiency
  • Oversee development and implementation of manufacturing processes, work instructions, and procedures to ensure efficient, safe, and quality production operations
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives including automation, Industry 4.0 technologies, and smart manufacturing solutions to modernize production capabilities
    • Lead new program introductions and equipment installations, ensuring seamless integration into existing manufacturing operations with minimal disruption
    • Spearhead technology roadmap development and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies (robotics, IoT sensors, data analytics) to improve productivity and quality
    • Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues, implementing corrective actions and process improvements to prevent recurrence
    • Partner with quality engineering to address non-conformances, implement root cause corrective actions, and enhance product quality through data-driven decision making
    • Work with design engineering teams on new product development and sustainment programs and incorporate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
    • Manage capital equipment planning, justification, and implementation to support current and future manufacturing requirements with focus on ROI analysis and technology advancement
    • Develop and monitor departmental budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines to ensure effective utilization of engineering resources
    • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing efficiency, quality metrics, safety performance, and cost reduction initiatives
    • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the engineering team, encouraging experimentation with new technologies and methodologies
    • Travel as required to supplier sites, customer facilities, and other company locations (estimated 5-10% travel)
    • Drive a zero-incident culture
    • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance may be required for this position

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability to lead successful continuous improvement initiatives with measurable results in cost reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency gains
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt, Black Belt preferred)
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing, automated assembly systems, or smart factory concepts
  • Proficiency with manufacturing execution systems (MES), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and data analytics tools
  • Experience in defense or aerospace manufacturing with understanding of AS9100 quality management systems
  • Familiarity with electronics manufacturing, particularly SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) operations
  • Strong change management skills with ability to lead organizational transformation initiatives
  • Background in safety management systems and ergonomic workplace design
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent, with ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems and simulation software for manufacturing process optimization
